More adventures of Babar! These 2 are the ones I had read to me most as a kid, so I‘m loving all the nostalgia. In retrospect I‘m a little dubious about the things we used to read to small children. I think the tagged volume gave me nightmares about islands of cannibals when I first heard it. Still, I totally want to move to whatever climate Celestville is in so I can have tulips, cacti, and palm trees all in the same garden! #ChildrensClassicRead

Tonton Babar! Feeling so nostalgic 💕 1y
IndoorDame @Tonton it‘s so nice to indulge in nostalgia 💕 the art in the tagged one is especially sublime 1y
batsy The art is so lovely. Those covers are so striking, too. 1y

I wanted to read more of Babar to see if the books got any better so I checked these out as well. Spoiler alert, these were no better. Just as boring. I found Babar had no character, he was just an elephant on his honeymoon. There were some problematic illustrations that I found offensive but I just read in an article that @TheBookHippie posted that stated the son of the author removed the illustrations.

mrp27 Sadly, this edition still contained those illustrations. As for the other issues that have been pointed out such as a glorification of colonialism, I‘m not going to discuss but leave it up to the reader. 1y
batsy "just an elephant on a honeymoon" made me laugh ? 1y
mrp27 @Batsy 😂 My first and only thought after I finished reading! But seriously, Babar has no endearing character traits or quirks. He‘s just an elephant. 1y
batsy @mrp27 He was without a personality in the first one, so it looks like that's a thing that continued in the rest of the books! 1y

I'm just so excited that this little bookstore is still around. It isn't often you find a bookstore mainly dedicated to children and teenagers but Livres Babar has managed to stick around! My parents would take us every time we visited my aunt and uncle and I'd usually come out with a stack of 5-10 books! Livres Babar is located in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Canada.

Congratulations @BennettBookworm on reaching 20K - and thank you for the #20kgiveaway

tpixie Oh how wonderful! I‘ll put it on my list of bookstores around the world. In Cambridge, Massachusetts, there‘s a Curious George Bookstore- owned by the authors ( at least originally). 1y
Jess861 @tpixie Thank you!! I'll absolutely have to check this out if we are ever in or near Cambridge, Massachusetts! 1y

Book 2 in the Babar series is not quite as good as the first one but still very enjoyable. Will definitely read more in the series! 4⭐️
