I learned so much in this book. The book is set in the Phillipines and the author doesn't shy away from handling some big topics including social inequality, privilege, and substance abuse. I love Sab's voice, inquisitiveness, and determination. At times this book had me near tears and at other points I was filled with hope. It's a wonderful read. #weneeddiversebooks

This is Gail's debut #middlegrade #novel that follows Sab and Pepper on an adventure around #Manila that brings Sab's family understanding, growth, and reconciliation. Gail isn't afraid to talk about the harsh truths of society, creating a deeply realistic and relatable story for #filipino #readers, and #awareness to intl readers. It's rich in culture, and I love that Gail shows us both the beautiful and the tragic
