Did she once have a sister? Has her mother lied all these years? Why? After a painful divorce, Maisey Lazarow returns to Fairham, the small island off the South Carolina coast where she grew up. She goes there to healand to help her brother, Keith, a deeply troubled man who's asked her to come home. But she refuses to stay in the family house. The last person she wants to see is the wealthy, controlling mother she escaped years ago. Instead, she finds herself living next door to someone else she'd prefer to avoidRafe Romero, the wild, reckless boy to whom she lost her virginity at sixteen. He's back on the island, and to her surprise, he's raising a young daughter alone. Maisey's still attracted to him, but her heart's too broken to risk Then something even more disturbing happens. She discovers a box of photographs that evoke distant memories of a little girl, a child Keith remembers, too. Maisey believes the girl must've been their sister, but their mother claims there was no sister. Maisey's convinced that child existed. So where is she now?"

Pickpick

I read this book as part of an online book club and I'm so glad I did. I feel like I've rediscovered Brenda Novak books 😁 and I'm even more excited to know that there is a book to follow this one which ended with quite the plot twist!

This book had some great family drama elements with the cold, controlling mother who could never be pleased & the 2 kids who, with their lives in chaos, come home to try to put themselves back together, & a mystery about a sister who they had forgotten had existed. Throw in a touch of romance & it seems like it can‘t fail...but it just doesn‘t take it all the way home for me. The final twist was too out of left field for my liking & I liked the...

Redjewel_7734 Con‘t...let‘s take it slow romance, but then all of a sudden in the last pages it ramped up to let‘s get married in few months. But all of that said, the book is worth the read for the best character, Laney-Rafe‘s adorable little girl. 6y

Not one of her best work but intriguing enough for me to keep going. Maisey is back to Fairham Island after divorcing her Husband. Her Brother is emotionally dependent on her since he's always rely drugs when she's not around. The relationship between her and her Mother is on the brink of unrepairable when she found out about their 'secret Sister'. #kindle #romanticsuspense
