Fabulous book in the classic tradition of UK children‘s books. I love the imagery of the gardens hidden within London. That will no doubt figure in the sequel.

The best part of working in an indie bookstore is the relationships we form with our patrons.

This morning, I was emailing with a regular customer who was looking to complete this series. When she told me it was about slightly sarcastic talking cats, I was sold.

She turned up this afternoon with her childhood copy of the first book for me to borrow. This is definitely a case of “drop everything and read it now” so I can return it in good time.

Carbonel is the king of cats - and probably thinks he should be the king of people - so he demands to be included today. I loved this book as a kid and bought a copy to read to my kids (must do that!)
