You loved Wallander, now meet Wisting . . . ___________ Twenty-four years ago Katharina Haugen went missing. All she left behind was her husband Martin and a mysterious string of numbers scribbled on a piece of paper. Every year on October 9th Chief Inspector William Wisting takes out the files to the case he was never able to solve. Stares at the code he was never able to crack. And visits the husband he was never able to help. But now Martin Haugen is missing too. As Wisting prepares to investigate another missing person's case he's visited by a detective from Oslo. Adrian Stiller is convinced Martin's involved in another disappearance of a young woman and asks Wisting to close the net around Martin. But is Wisting playing cat and mouse with a dangerous killer or a grief-stricken husband who cannot lay the past to rest? ___________ SOON TO BE A MAJOR TV SERIES FROM THE PRODUCERS BEHIND WALLANDER AND THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. ___________ Set between the icy streets and dark forests of Norway, The Katharina Code is a heart-stopping story of one man's obsession with his coldest case. Atmospheric, gripping and suspenseful; this is Nordic Noir at its very best. ___________ 'Jrn Lier Horst is one of the most brilliantly understated crime novelists writing today' Joan Smith, Sunday Times 'Up there with the best of the Nordic crime writers' Marcel Berlin, The Times 'A good Nordic police procedural with well-drawn characters' Choice Magazine

Finland and Norway have not been on our #NordicNoir reading list this year. Anyone interested in digging into these countries‘ noir lit? I will be reading the tagged one soonish. We have not discussed what we‘ll read after Läckberg‘s 10th and final.

Butterfinger Yes, I would. 4y
EadieB I would too but my library only has this series:
William Wisting
1. Dregs (2011)
2. Closed for Winter (2013)
3. The Hunting Dogs (2014)
4. The Caveman (2015)
5. Ordeal (2016)
6. When It Grows Dark (2017)
(edited) 4y
Tove_Reads @EadieB It‘s confusing since he‘s in this book as well. 4y

EadieB @Tove_Reads https://www.fantasticfiction.com/h/jorn-lier-horst/

The tagged book is called Cold Case Quartet
4y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Not sure, but I believe it‘s a spin off, or a continuation to his own series, but he‘s no longer the only main character. 4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Well those are the only books I can get at my library. Notice these books are the newest published. That's why my library doesn't have them yet. Possibly they need to be translated.

Cold Case Quartet
1. The Katharina Code (2018)
2. The Cabin (2019)
3. The Inner Darkness (2020)

Alexander Blix (with Thomas Enger)
1. Death Deserved (2019)
2. Smoke Screen (2020)
(edited) 4y
Tove_Reads @AnneCecilie Do you know more about this? 4y
andrew61 I have read two of this series dregs and the caveman and recently found closed for winter. I really like the character although as you mentioned earlier there are 3 or 4 before dregs not translated into English. 4y
andrew61 There was also a very good recent tv adaptation of two of the books. 4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads @Andrew61 Found this on Wiki:
William Wisting series
Key Witness (2004)
Disappearance of Felicia (2005)
When the Sea Calms (2006)
The Only One (2007)
Nocturnal Man (2009)
Dregs (Org. Bunnfall, 2010)
Closed for Winter (2011)
The Hunting Dogs (20120
The Caveman (2013)
Ordeal (2015)
When It Grows Dark (2016) (A prequel to the series.)
The Katharina Code (2017)
The Cabin (2018)
(edited) 4y
Tove_Reads @andrew61 @eadieb sometimes I wonder if they try to confuse us on purpose 😂😂 4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I think books 1-5 are being translated. @Andrew61 (edited) 4y
Andrew65 Would be good to get to some other countries. 4y
gradcat @Tove_Reads & @Andrew65 & @EadieB I take it these are difficult to find? I did watch the William Wisting shows on Sundance, but that‘s really all I know of either series. 4y
Crazeedi I'll have to look to see what I can find if you decide on any of these 4y
Crazeedi @gradcat are you ok? I sent email, just making sure you weren't affected by storm 4y
gradcat @Crazeedi I haven‘t gotten your email yet...I‘ll check after I get off of Litsy. I still have to go to the doctor a lot—3 appointments today!—so give me a minute to get back to you. I love you for thinking of me...you‘re really so kind to me....😌😘♥️ 4y

Anyone read this series? How is it comparison to Adler-Olsen‘s Department Q?

AnneCecilie I haven‘t read, but know that his extremely popular on Norway. He sells almost as much as Nesbø. Holst is actually an educated policeman and work as such for several years and has worked on some of the most criminal cases in Norway. Apparently this can be seen in his work. 4y
Tove_Reads @AnneCecilie Cool, thanks! Like always with Nordic books, we have plenty copies in the library, both in Finnish and Swedish, so I‘ll pick one up next time I‘m there. 4y
Butterfinger What are we reading for September? I have been so busy with the beginning of a new school year, I don't know up from down. 4y

Tove_Reads @Butterfinger Well, I guess the first book by Indridason, but since I can‘t get it it I won‘t be able to join in. Then Camilla Läckberg number 10, and Åsa Larsson number 2. Her second book was chosen best detective book in Sweden the year it came out, so fingers crossed it‘s a lot better than the first one! 4y
Butterfinger Thanks. Could I order a book through Amazon to your email? 4y
Tove_Reads @Butterfinger Not sure. The Amazon ebook thingy is weird. I have UK now. It‘s a huge thing with rights. This is pretty much the only Nordic series I know of that for some very strange reason the first two books have not been translated into Finnish or Swedish. 4y
Tove_Reads @Butterfinger Sorry, naturally 9th book by Camilla in September 4y
Butterfinger Let me try. I was able to sign on to Amazon UK. My email is tammydayton75@gmail.com. 4y
Tove_Reads But, just checked. The UK site stated the first one is Jar City, but it‘s not. That‘s the third one in the series. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤔 4y

My reading spot this morning on my verandah in the bright sun. Another gorgeous Autumn day. I am really enjoying this Nordic crime thriller. I‘ve found it hard to engage lately in my books and have had a very slow reading year🙁 Hope you are all happy and healthy😘

CarolynM That looks lovely😍 It has been very wet, cold and grey here for the last few days. 4y
Cathythoughts Lovely weather ... I really enjoyed that book 4y
Freespirit It was cooler here last week @CarolynM but lovely this week. We did light our fire for the first time over the weekend. Hope all well with you😘 4y

Pickpick

One of the better crime books I‘ve read in recent years. The author, Horst , is a former detective himself ... Set in Norway Detective Wisting is obsessed with a cold case for 25 years now .... I was intrigued & scared at times. ... I have already started another by this author 👍🏻 called Dreggs.

CarolynM Stacked! That's Norway taken care of. Thank you🙂 4y
Cathythoughts @CarolynM I hope you will like it as much as I did 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 4y

“You loved Wallander, now meet Wisting “
Could it be true. ???!!! 🙏. Nothing has ever compared to Henning Mankell for me.
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻Here it goes ... I‘ll give it a try

eanderson I seriously need to start this series... I have the first book, of course, but still haven‘t picked it up. 🤭 4y
TrishB 🤞🏻🤞🏻 4y
Cathythoughts @eanderson yes this one is the start of The Cold Case Quartet. There‘s also an early stack starting with Dreggs ... I‘m excited to see what they will be like 👍🏻❤️ 4y
Cathythoughts @TrishB 👍🏻❤️ 4y

Starting on a new crime thriller and my first intro to Det. Wisting. Five chapters in, I‘m liking this more than my previous read. Hope it‘ll get better hereon.😊 *Update - well, that ended quite unexpectedly! A bit of an anti-climax towards the end but I like the characters so I‘ll be looking out for the next Wisting-Stiller collaboration.😏*
