A Perfect Explanation | Eleanor Anstruther
7 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
For fans of the Patrick Melrose novels: a piercing and exquisite debut novel--based on the true story of the author's grandmother, the granddaughter of the 8th Duke of Argyll--about the perils of aristocratic privilege, where inheritance is everything and happiness is hard won.

#Publishedin2020 # MarchMagic This was my 2020 birthday pick, following my rule of treating myself to a book I‘ve never heard anything about. I think the cover got me.

It‘s rare that I picked up a book that I‘ve heard NOTHING about. (Due to Litsy, Goodreads, podcasts, etc.) but I loved this cover and bought myself a little bday present. I loved it. And I love that it‘s the author‘s attempt at explaining something that happened to her family. #judgeabookbyitscover

My #bookreport #weeklyforecast. HIGHLIGHT last week was Nell Larsen's Passing, a slim work of the Harlem Renaissance.
Enjoying my re-read of Claire-Louise Bennett's idiosyncratic Pond.
Anyone read A Perfect Explanation? Doesn't seem to have much Litsy presence. (A very upper crust British family drama set in the 1920s and 60s)
@Cinfhen

Nute Yay! Nella Larsen!❤️Yay! Paul Yoon! 4y
merelybookish @Nute 🤗 Have you read the Yoon? 4y
Nute I read Snow Hunters which I absolutely loved, but not many other folks did. It was a tiny book filled with slow, lush and lyrical writing. He became an instant favorite author! (edited) 4y

merelybookish @Nute That's fun! I like lush & lyrical writing. I haven't read him before although I have The Mountain stacked. 4y
writerlibrarian I read/listened to Passing over a year ago, through Librivox, while at work going through books to weed and i got so into it. 4y
merelybookish @writerlibrarian I've had it stacked for ages and decided to read it for Black History month. So glad I did! 4y
