This book would be good to read to students when talking about the importance of working hard, treating everyone equally and being kind to one another. One small act of kindness can completely change someone‘s life.

I loved the theme behind this book and how the story unfolds. I thought it was cool how at the beginning of the book, Dick was one of the poorest, hungriest people around; however, by the end of the book, Dick‘s perseverance and braveness turned into him becoming the mayor of London and being one of the richest people around.

This story has a theme of the underdog winning and coming to light which children love. Everything works out for him in the end when it didn‘t seem so great in the beginning

pickpublished 2006. In this story the author uses very good descriptive language. This authors words really help the reader visualize the scene being read is the reader was to close their eyes. I also really like the the illustrations. The facial expression on the characters are astonishing.
