The Tainted Relic
The Tainted Relic | Medieval Murderers, The
1 post | 2 read | 2 to read
July, 1100. Jerusalem lies ransacked. Amidst the chaos, an English knight is entrusted with a valuable religious relic: a fragment of the True Cross, allegedly stained with the blood of Christ. The relic is said to be cursed: anyone who touches it will meet an untimely and gruesome end. Several decades later, the Cross turns up in the possession of a dealer, robbed and murdered en route to Glastonbury. Investigating the death, Bernard Knight's protagonist, Crowner John learns of its dark history. In Oxford in 1269, the discovery of a decapitated monk leads Ian Morson's academic sleuth William Falconer to uncover a link to the relic. In 1323, in Exeter, Michael Jecks' Sir Baldwin has reason to suspect its involvement in at least five violent deaths. Thirty years later, several suspicious deaths occur in Cambridge -- and, once again, the tainted relic has a crucial part to play. Finally, it's despatched to London, where Philip Gooden's Nick Revill will determine its ultimate fate.

Ate you familiar with this series? Wow, the list of authors...

EadieB @Tove_Reads yes I have 3 or 4 of those books and I know @Andrew65 has said he wants to read them too. 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB @Andrew65 I need to order lots of books from the U.K. soon, because if hard Brexit happens, there will most likely be trouble for me to get a lot of books. I am now looking into all the books and series I must have. This series is now on the list! 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB @andrew65 I‘ll make sure I‘ll have this series, George and Gregory. Should keep my hisfic craving satisfied for awhile! 5y

EadieB @Tove_Reads why will brexit make it hard? Don‘t you have charity or thrift stores that sell books cheaply? (edited) 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Hard brexit means there are no deals, nothing. Customs, taxes, everything is out in the open. No one knows what will happen, but I doubt old books will get moving between countries for awhile. Everything has to be negotiated separately if no deals are made. Let‘s hope it doesn‘t come to that. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Really that‘s crazy! Sounds like going from one extreme to another. 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Chances if getting the books I need are slim. Most books are in Finnish or Swedish, and quite a few series I want to read have not been translated. Fully relying on the thrift stores in the U.K. that ships abroad. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads yes that makes it difficult if you want to read in English. 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Or to read at all... Naturally Sansom, Cussler, King, and other big names are translated, but when it comes to Hayder, McKinty etc. it gets harder. There are more Swedish translations, but not all the books get bought to Finland. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Sorry you have to go thru this just to read some good books. Very frustrating! 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB I wouldn‘t be able to do my reading the world challenge if it wasn‘t for my friends in the US and the UK. Some book stores don‘t send books abroad. Luckily I have addresses in both countries to send my books to! 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads How do you get the books to you from the US? 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB My friend lives both here and there, so she brings them with her. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Oh that‘s pretty handy! 5y
Andrew65 Lot of myths and scare stories around a hard Brexit. To be honest don‘t think anyone knows what will happen one way or the other, can‘t see government coming to a final decision because all out for own interests than rather what is best for the country. I can see Brexit being delayed but truly anything could happen including a referendum on what the final deal we go with. @EadieB @Tove_Reads (edited) 5y
Andrew65 As Eadie says I am interested in this series but not read any. Think I own a couple. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Sounds like a lot of political scare tactics with the brexit. Same as the Trump scares that we have! Crazy people panic! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Totally scare tactics! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Why wouldn‘t things just go back to what it was like before? (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB The big issue is so many things are wrapped up together and it‘s unpicking those and EU trying to make it as painful a divorce as possible to ensure no other country follows us. Then in U.K. got different people wanting different things from it, and those who don‘t want it trying to fight to reverse it. If it is reversed or leaving Is put to another referendum it will truly show the U.K. isn‘t a democracy . A very dangerous precedent! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Oh my! That does not sound good! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB It isn‘t! 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB @Andrew65 I‘ll get the first few books in the series and the first, and missing one, in the Lynley series. I‘m sure they have figured out some solution to me getting my books easily from the U.K. once we get further into these series. 5y
