My Kind of Christmas
My Kind of Christmas | Janet Dailey
3 posts | 4 read
A delightful annual tradition. RT Book Reviews Sometimes the best surprises are right at home . . . Returning to Branding Iron, Texas, is Travis Morgans last resort, and the abandoned ranch he inherited isnt much more welcoming than the prison cell where he spent the last three years doing time for a tragic accident. Completely without funds or family, Travis finds celebrating Christmas is the last thing on his mind, but theres no escaping the holiday spirit in this close-knit little townnot with Branding Irons longtime Santa retiring, and sweetly stubborn Mayor Maggie Delaney determined to find a replacement. When her no-nonsense faade slips to reveal the sensual, vulnerable woman beneath it, Travis realizes Maggie just might be as lonely as he isand that this holiday season, love could be the gift that heals them both. The spirit of Christmas permeates this charming holiday romance. RT Book Reviews on Merry Christmas, Cowboy

Mehso-so

My first Christmas book of the season - I was totally fine with the sappy storyline and multiple coincidences that loved the story along, but this went down to a So-So for me because the whole point is that Travis's dad, Hank, lost his leg in a farming accident when Travis was little, then Hank became an angry alcoholic & eventually Travis's mom left. Later, when Travis was a teen he got mad at his stepdad & ran away to meet Hank, whom he ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) can't remember. When he gets there, Hank cusses him out & says he never wanted Travis & Hank doesn't care where Travis goes but it can't be here, etc etc. This leaves Travis embittered against Hank, so when this story starts, that's the backstory. SO HERE'S THE PART THAT MADE ME MAD - when everyone finds out this story, literally EVERYONE thinks TRAVIS is being unreasonable for being mad about this!!! Hank says something like “oh I ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) couldn't keep Travis because I'd signed away custody rights so I had to make sure he didn't stay“ & everyone's like “oh yes you were in a really bad place then, you did what you had to do“ - um, I'm sorry, swearing at your teenage son & saying you wished he'd never been born is NOT the same as explaining to him why he can't stay with you?!?! Just because Hank has since then become sobered up & is now a great guy doesn't mean that he ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) shouldn't have to apologize for his past behavior & it doesn't make Travis a horrible person for wrestling with forgiving his dad. Plus, even in the present day Hank does some stuff that I thought was absolutely ridiculous & everyone is just like, “oh he's a sad, desperate old man who wouldn't have to do these things if his horrible son would just forgive him!“ The whole thing really made me angry. Both Hank & Travis had things they ⬇ 3y

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) need to apologize/forgive & I was way over everyone acting like Travis was a jerk & Hank was a saint.

Okay, that got a little ranty, but you'll have that 😂 It honestly wasn't a BAD book & I'm actually already reading the sequel, it was just the Travis is the bad guy attitude that got my goat.

ANYWAY this was a Holiday Read for #MerryReaders & checked off prompts for #FestiveFlicks #AVeryMerryBingo & #BookmasBingo as well as being ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) book 3/25 for #CrushtheRush . I didn't quite hit my 300pg goal for #ReadYourWayReadathon yesterday, but I built up a good cushion so I'm still +279pgs for the month so far.

Traci1 Well, at least the dog on the cover is cute 😉 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Traci1 - Okay, since I had already ranted about this honestly perfectly fine book so much I didn't even get into the dog on the cover but - does that look like a black & white half-border collie to you???? Because that's what the dog in the book is supposed to be!! 😂 3y
Librarybelle Rants over books are perfectly acceptable! Especially when storylines are so irritating. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle - Sometimes it's just cathartic 😂 3y
MittenGirlPeach I loved this rant so much and that is NOT A BORDER COLLIE!!!!!! 😂 3y
Clwojick 🤣 I love a good book rant! And I LOVE that you‘re already reading the next one! 3y

TheAromaofBooks @MittenGirlPeach - Right?!?! The next book in the series has a border collie on the cover, though... in fact, it has two, despite the fact that there's only one dog in the book! 😂 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Clwojick - This may be what they call “addiction“ 😂 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Not a border collie, but cute. Thank you for taking one for the team. Sometimes I rant about a perfectly fine book because one thing annoys me. I also yell at Hallmark movies. "Calm down, Candace! And who hell travels by plane with a vision board?! Honestly!" 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick - Exactly!! It really wasn't a bad read, I just got over everyone ganging up on poor Travis!! 😂 3y
MittenGirlPeach @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick that cracks me up so much. A vision board! 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @MittenGirlPeach Totally a real scenario. A Christmas Detour with Candace Cameron Bure. As a kid people thought I liked like her. I loved it. As an adult I find her shrill and I'm glad I'm chunky enough the comparison doesn't come up. 🤣 3y
