Ten, Nine, Eight | Molly Bang

Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang, 1983. Caldecott Honor Book. This book is a short story that uses counting to describe the bedtime process of the main character. It's illustrations won it the Caldecott Honor.
Blurb: This book would be perfect as a bedtime story or to use to calm children down. As well as to learn counting (up to ten).

I like the diversity with the book representing a Black family. I also like how it could teach children counting down from 10 and it also uses many description words.

Great book for learning how to count (1984). The illustrations are cute and also show the need of having someone help teach these skills to the child in order for there to be success.
I really enjoyed the counting in this book. I enjoyed the relation of household objects and some of your own body parts i.e. toes.
“6 pale seashells hanging down.“
I enjoyed this quote because of the illustrations and the relation to the beach.

Received the Caldecott Honor award. Wasn't my favorite, just because there really is no plot or overall theme to it. However, it helped kids be able to count down and also let kids fall asleep to a fast and enjoyable read.

It was a cute bedtime story for when the kids can be put to bed.

“Sleepy eyes which open and close” this is where the daughter starts to fall asleep during the story.

I think this book would be great for younger kids. Kindergarten would be a great area for this book to be read. It is teaching small numbers for kids in an easy way to remember it. This would be a great book to show kids the values of each number.

This is also a picture book. It shows how the daughter is getting ready for bed through little words. This book shows great illustrations of a daughter getting ready to go to bed. I think this would be a good book for kids learning to count.
