Song of the Dead

The Dead must stay buried. Karthia is nothing like it used to be. The kingdom's borders are open for the first time in nearly three hundred years, and raising the dead has been outlawed. Odessa is determined to explore the world beyond Karthia's waters, hoping to heal a heart broken in more ways than she can count. But with Meredy joining the ocean voyage, vanquishing her sorrow will be a difficult task. Despite the daily reminder of the history they share, Odessa and Meredy are fascinated when their journey takes them to a land where the Dead rule the night and dragons roam the streets. Odessa can't help being mesmerized by the new magic--and by the girl at her side. But just as she and Meredy are beginning to explore the new world, a terrifying development in Karthia summons them home at once. Growing political unrest on top of threats from foreign invaders means Odessa and Meredy are thrust back into the lives they tried to leave behind while specters from their past haunt their tenuous relationship. Gathering a force big enough to ward off enemies seems impossible, until one of Queen Valoria's mages creates a weapon that could make them invincible. As danger continues to mount inside the palace, Odessa fears that without the Dead, even the greatest invention won't be enough to save their fates. In this enthralling, heartrending sequel to Reign of the Fallen, Odessa faces the fight of her life as the boundaries between the Dead and the living are challenged in a way more gruesome than ever before.

Mehso-so

All of the elements that made me love book 1 were just gone from this book. I also was expecting more or a new problem that started in Reign but hadn't been solved...yet it seemed like just a rehash of Reign of to me. Also, I was really hoping to see a relationship with Meredy and Odessa which was sort of there but there was just so much relationship bickering drama and it felt like there was no chemistry between them anymore.

BookishGamer87 Kind of happy I haven't bought this yet now. But also sad that it wasn't as good as Reign 😳 5y

I got a bunch of reading done on An Echo in the Bone and Descendant of the Crane today but I want to get a jump on this so I can finish it tomorrow after work.

[#BookReview] Song of the Dead by Sarah Glenn Marsh! This duology means so much to me and I am so happy to have finally read the second book. This fantasy story has themes like grief, depression, healing, chosen family, LGBTQ, and love (romantic and platonic). I cannot recommend these books enough.

I enjoyed reading this book. The story continued on as we followed Odessa as she began a new chapter of her life and dealt with a new threat. That‘s all that I‘ll say. I won‘t spoil this for anyone. Im sad that the series is a duology and not a trilogy. I‘m glad that this is the book that Penguin chose to send me. #songofthedead #sarahglennmarsh

An absolute great sequel to Reign of the Fallen! A couple of months ago I got to meet Sarah Glenn Marsh (who is a local writer) and make friends with her and her characters. These books are fierce and diverse and full of magic, friendship and love (also, Necromancy). Song of the Dead comes out in January, so you won't have to wait long to devour this duology like a Shade snacking on a human.

It's #HumpDayPost time! @MinDea
1. Necromancy because of tagged book.
2. My keys.
3. Pride by Ibi Zoboi, so romance.
4. It's been a few months, but they were some fancy ones. Usually I'm not a tot person.
5. I do! But I've only done it once (Bangles, Manic Monday). I cannot sing well. Or, like at all.

Alabama trying to get her dad's attention. #catsoflitsy

Kaye I like your cat‘s name. How did you choose it ? Did you get her in Alabama ? 5y
MidnightBookGirl @Kaye Lol, sooooo, the Hubs was reluctant when I first wanted to get a second cat years ago, so when I brought home our first female cat, I named her Joey from the Ramones bc the Hubs is a huge fan. And after Joey passed away, the Hubs was again reluctant to get another cat. So when I finally talked him into it, I named her Alabama after Patricia Arquette's character in True Romance (one of the Hubs early crushes) 5y
Kaye Oh, that‘s a good idea 💡. I don‘t know anything about the shows you mentioned , but naming the cat after a character your husband likes might make him like the cat more. 👍🏼 5y

Today I got a surprise ‘unicorn‘ which brightened up a day where I was almost in tears at the bookstore (of all places)!

My lovely friend @aeeklund popped this long-awaited ARC into my hands, and all I could do was kiss and hug her right there. And I turn to the acknowledgments in the back and there I am; I‘m so honored! I have been written into the book (in a small part) as ‘Baroness Katerina‘, with a cat of course. I can‘t wait to read it all!

BarbaraTheBibliophage Wow! So fun ... 👏🏻👏🏻 6y
