I Married the Klondike
I Married the Klondike | Laura Beatrice Berton
2 posts | 1 read
First published in 1954, this is a true story of love and adventure which traces the history of Dawson City through the eyes of a young schoolteacher from Canada and the penniless Yukon miner she married... This is a brave book. It is a record of a womans courage and devotion in a hostile land. It is the story of a refined and sensitive girl who found happiness the hard way, and triumphed over conditions that would have driven most women to distraction. It is also a tribute to a husband who with hand, heart and head was outstanding in a world of worthy men. I have read many books on the Yukon, but this is different...It is the gallant personality of the author which shines on every page, and makes her chronicle a saga of the High North. (Robert W. Service, Preface)

#JulyJam #IceCreamDay today‘s form of ice cream for me! I love many forms of this sweet treat. Hope you have some soon !🍦🍨

Maria514626 My Dad *loved* ice cream. He called it his malaria medicine. He would say, “I‘ve never had malaria.” 🤦‍♀️❤️ (He didn‘t live anywhere near where one could contract the disease.) (edited) 2y

Pickpick

I enjoyed this memoir about a 29 year old woman who moves to the Yukon in 1907 to teach kindergarten. Full of fascinating stories, experiences, and characters.
