Astor, Ontario. 1904. A boy staggers out of the forest covered in blood and collapses at the feet of 16-year-old Emmy. While others are suspicious and afraid, Emmy is drawn to him. Is he really the monster the townsfolk say he is? Astor, Ontario. 1994. Megan arrives from London for her great grandmother Emmy's 105th birthday. It should be a happy family occasion, but Megan is nursing a broken heart and carrying a secret she fears might consume her. One family. Two women. A century of secrets. A timeless love story.

A post-#YALC #AugustTBR! YALC is the Young Adult Literature Convention here in the UK, which took place last weekend. I want to read these three books as soon as possible because I went to workshops with the authors of Piglettes and Little Liar, which were fab, and because I picked up an enamel pin of Stranger from the publisher's stand 😄 #AlltheBooksAug18 #AugInBooks18 #YA #youngadult

Mehso-so

I was kind of bummed that I didn‘t love this story more. Told in two different perspectives (in different times), this ended up feeling like two books smashed into one... and only one of them was good. I loved the Emmy parts. Megan was... dramatic? All of her parts were just her thinking about her ex and the abortion she had, regardless of what was happening around her. The two narratives just didn‘t flow together.

I have been in such a terrible reading slump the last week! Everything I‘ve picked up, I‘ve ended up disliking or DNF-omg. Hopefully this will turn things around!
