The Truth-Teller's Lie
The Truth-Teller's Lie: A Zailer and Waterhouse Mystery | Sophie Hannah
6 posts | 19 read | 8 to read
"A superbly creepy, twisty thriller” (The Times (London)) by the internationally best-selling author of The Other Woman’s House and The Wrong Mother Naomi Jenkins knows all about secrets: three years ago something so terrible happened to her that she's never told anyone about it. Now, Naomi has another secret: her relationship with the unhappily married Robert Haworth. When Robert vanishes without explanation, Naomi knows he must have come to harm. But the police are less convinced, particularly when Robert's wife insists he is not missing. In desperation, Naomi decides that if she can't persuade the detectives that Robert is in danger, she'll convince them that he is a danger to others. Naomi knows how to describe the actions of a psychopath; all she needs to do is dig up her own traumatic past. The second book in Sophie Hannah’s beloved Zailer and Waterhouse series, The Truth-Teller’s Lie is a chillingly smart suspense novel sure to appeal to fans of Tess Gerritsen and Gillian Flynn.

I recently read the novel Hurting Distance by Sophie Hannah. It is a deliciously complex psychological thriller. Parts of it are very gritty and difficult to read, but persevere- it is well worth it. Highly recommended.

Lots of people seem to hate Sophie Hannah, and I kind of get why. It's certainly true that the plot of this one turns on people behaving in the most incomprehensible (to me) ways. At the same time she writes well and the story, despite its implausibilities, keeps you turning the pages. I thought this was an improvement on Little Face, her first, and I'm interested to see how the relationship between Simon and Charlie resolves itself.

Loved this! First time in awhile that I've stayed up way too late to finish and to find out what happened!

#recommendsday This book was originally published in the UK as The Hurting Distance, but you can find it under both titles on Amazon. Unbelievably creepy and out-there premise. You won't be able to connect the dots until the end. I have read everything by Sophie Hannah. One of my favorite authors.

MrBook Another book that sounds interesting and it has a great cover. 8y

Another stellar mystery by Hannah! So strangely wicked and truly psychologically twisted. Who is lying, who is is telling the truth? A provocative page turner. The best detective series I've ever read. Love the mixed points of view.
