“All the world is asleep except for the paperboy and his dog. And this is the time when they are the happiest“
I enjoyed reading this story because the boy in this story is determined to take on his role as the paperboy. I like how the boy is motivated to do his job while also dreaming about his future. I would use this in a classroom to ask students what responsibilities they have or what dreams they will to accomplish.
The Paperboy won a Caldecott Honor in 1997. This story is about a boy and his dog as they deliver the newspaper. The story is one about dreaming and hard work. The illustrations seem to be oil pastel, since the story is set in the early morning the oil pastels are a great choice since this requires lots of blending.
This RF, S Caldecott award winning book will be an easy read to addition to classroom libraries! The most prominent theme of jobs can act as a jumpstart for young minds to ponder on possible future jobs or professions they may enjoy. The Caldecott award winner The Paperboy is a RF book is about a boy on his paper route in the early morning with his dog. Finally when the world around them is waking up, that‘s when they are going to sleep. This would work as a SR that teaches students about friendship and sticking together. This is a great RA to sit on the carpet and read with students. UDL standard you can use is activate or supply background knowledge (3.1). You can do this by asking students what they wake up early for and if they have seen the newspaper in their yard.
“and when the paperboy has delivered his last newspaper, he and his dog race home.“
It's so cute that the little boy and his dog do the paper route together everyday
I like that this is a young main character who helps out his little neighborhood by riding his bike around delivering newspapers.

I think this book would be a great lesson for my students one day. I could teach them that people are doing their jobs even when they are still sleeping. It also teaches them responsibility, even when they are cuddled up in bed in the morning they have a job to get to which is school! After school they can go home and play and relax just like the paperboy.
The Paperboy by Dav Pilkey, 1997. Caldecott Honor Book. I thought this book was eye opening. The boy had a responsibility every morning before anyone woke up and had a job to do. I thought it was cute that his dog came along for the ride even though he wanted to stay in the warm bed. I liked how the illustrations took up the whole page.
Shows how early the paperboy has to get up to go to work. I think some people forget that they finish their work before anyone wakes up! Cute book to read and easy to understand.

The Paperboy by Dav Pilkey was written in 1997 and won the Caldecott award. This book leaves the reader feeling at peace and relaxed as the cool and dark tones of the pictures remind you of the early morning before the sun has begun to touch the earth. It tells a nice story of the boy who delivers the paper and how his morning is different than the norm.
“And on these cold mornings the paperboy‘s bed is still warm and it is always hard to get out- even for his dog...”
I think how the author added the dog to the story made it a higher interest for students.
The Paperboy is a story with strong illustrations. I thought it was neat how the story started in his room sleeping with his dog in their warm bed but also ended in the same location.
I love the illustrations/paintings in this book-especially on the page where it describes the colors of the sky, then shows a beautiful colorful picture of a pink sky in the early morning.
The Paperboy is a cute story about a little boy and his dog, and how they use teamwork to deliver newspapers. The boy and dog not only work hard, but show a loving relationship through the story too. It is probably relatable for a lot of children who have dogs (or other pets). This is my favorite so far!
