This is a book full of funny sister-relatable poems that are light-hearted and humorous.

I love this book! It would be great for parents who have girls.

“Pirates wear long scraggly
beards on their chins.
Pirates wear smirks
with immense evil grins.“

I would use this book as an intro to a fun drama activity where the students could be pirates!

This was such a cute book of poems! It's a good change of content for children and pirates is something they can act out.

I could use “Warm Up“ (the first poem in this book) to get the kids a little active in the classroom. This would be good for a younger audience.

This is a cute bedtime poem!

“There once was a student named Sonny“ is easy poem to read that can boost the moods of the students. I think a good time to read this during the day is during a transitional period.

This is a book full of limericks. The one I read was called “There once was a student named Sonny.“ This is great for laughs and to lighten up the classroom mood.

“Monday is wash day in our town
washday, sloshday...“

This makes me think of the toddlers I work with at the Child Development Center, so I would read probably this to children around the their age.

This is a cute, light-hearted, and easy to read poem.

“His shoulders, broad and muscular, flexed as he tried to break a shard of wood - for no reason except to test his strength.“

This could be one of my new favorite children's novels!

This is a fantastic read! It's an adventure with so much more. However, since this is a chapter book, I would have older children read it.

This is a good book about a jackal that is hungry and decides to eat his friends. it's a good book because it promotes imagination in young children.

“John Roy was only twenty-four years old, and he was still on the rise.“

This would be a great way to incorporate literature while teaching history!

This is a very informational book about a man named John Roy Lynch who works his way from being a slave to being a congressman.

“People might say little Mahalia Jackson was born with nothing, but she had something alright. A voice that was bigger than she was.“

This would be a book I would pull out during black history month. It is so good for children to read about other culture than their own.

This is a great book that explains the life of a very talented african american woman whose come over many hardships.

“Because we're the quickest kids in Clarkesville, Tennessee“

This could be used for a lesson on how what you have doesn't determine where you'll end up.

this is a good book that shows rivalry between two kids because of the shoes they have and how fast they can run.

“It was a market and a gathering ground, where African music could resound.“

the illustrations are colored so that they match the mood of what the words are saying

I like this book for a couple reasons. One, it rhymes which can help keep the students' attention. Two, the illustrations are great.

The illustrations in this book are great! So is the figurative language.

This is a good book that can teach children about role models. It's short and sweet, yet gets the point across.

This is another good book that can be read when discussing african american history.

This is a good book discussing slavery. It's a life story of Belle starting from when she was born to when she was advocating for women's rights.

“When Duke was nineteen, he was entertaining ladies and gents at parties, pool halls, country clubs, and cabarets.“

This would be a great book to read to students when discussing black history month or doing an assignment about biographies.
