The Egg Tree
The Egg Tree | Katherine Milhous
10 posts | 5 read
One Easter morning, Katy and Carl went on an egg hunt through Grandmom's house. Katy couldn't find anything until she went up to the attic. And there she discovered a very special set of eggs... Grandmom had painted them when she was a little girl. And now, she hung them from the branches of a tiny tree -- an Egg Tree! So began a very special Easter tradition. This Caldecott Medal-winning story of a Pennsylvania Dutch Easter will surely inspire children to make Egg Trees of their very own.

The Egg Tree by Katherine Milhous is a RF picture book that has won a Caldecott Award. It has colorful illustrations that is sure to draw the attention of many students. This story would be a great RA to read around Easter time for the holidays. It is a sweet story about a young girl and her family participating in an egg hunt, when she locates a special something in the attic.

BRaulerson This is a great lesson plan that incorporates math into the egg hunt https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/blog-posts/alycia-zimmerman/equivalent-fract...

The ESOL Strategy I would use is incorporating the culture because they may have similar traditions they use that could help them to understand the story. #UCFLAE3414F19

DrSpalding You are utilizing high-quality resources. Scholastic is an excellent resource and I like that you noted that math and language arts can be used hand-in-hand with this book. 4y

“..for it was their first egg hunt”. The quote represents how young Katy and Carl are which allows younger students to relate to them.

I really enjoyed this book. Obviously it would be a great read around Easter, if your school allows you to celebrate it. The art in the book is very traditional and doesn‘t have much detail, making it an easy read for young children.

The Caldecott Medal, 1950. Takes place on Easter morning. Katy and Carl are woken up and hope that rabbit will have an egg hunt for them. Beautifully illustrated pictures that contrast and have fine details. Shows the love of a family and the fun of Easter.
