panThe "Scottish Jane Austen" really she's light on how remarkable Austen is for her deft prose and clever characterisations compared to the dry, staid stories of her contemporaries. The beginning, with the ridiculous Lady Juliana's horror of Scotland, is mildly amusing but the rest is terribly dull. Lady Emily is a welcome tonic, with some spirit and sense.
