The List
The List: A Week-by-Week Reckoning of Trumps First Year | Amy Siskind
3 posts | 8 to read
The shocking first-draft history of the Trump regime, and its clear authoritarian impulses, based on the viral Internet phenom "The Weekly List.? In the immediate aftermath of Donald Trump's election as president, Amy Siskind, a former Wall Street executive and the founder of The New Agenda, began compiling a list of actions taken by the Trump regime that pose a threat to our democratic norms. Under the headline: "Experts in authoritarianism advise to keep a list of things subtly changing around you, so you'll remember? Siskind's "Weekly List? began as a project she shared with friends, but it soon went viral and now has more than half a million viewers every week. Compiled in one volume for the first time, The List is a first draft history and a comprehensive accounting of Donald Trump's first year. Beginning with Trump's acceptance of white supremacists the week after the election and concluding a year to the day later, we watch as Trump and his regime chips away at the rights and protections of marginalized communities, of women, of us all, via Twitter storms, unchecked executive action, and shifting rules and standards. The List chronicles not only the scandals that made headlines but just as important, the myriad smaller but still consequential unprecedented acts that otherwise fall through cracks. It is this granular detail that makes The List such a powerful and important book. For everyone hoping to #resistTrump, The List is a must-have guide to what we as a country have lost in the wake of Trump's election. #Thisisnotnormal

A big thank you to the fabulous @Soubhiville for these holiday treats. I opened them slowly over the last week after getting some awful news and they definitely cheered me. Thank you for your generosity, my friend!

Soubhiville You‘re so welcome! I hope you‘re ok. Let me know if you need to talk. 5y
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville Thank you. Gunther got a bad diagnosis and probably has about 2 months. He has great quality of life, which is the important thing and I hope it lasts, but of course I‘m devastated. He‘s my baby boy. 😥🐶💙 5y
AlaMich I‘m so sorry to hear about Gunther. I went back to see some of the pics you posted and he‘s clearly a sweet boy. 💙 5y

Soubhiville Oh my gosh, I‘m so sorry! I‘m here for you, and I have been through that too of course, as most dog lovers have. It‘s so hard when it‘s your baby. We do everything we can for them. My heart is with you Holly. 5y
Hooked_on_books @AlaMich Thank you so much. He has a huge personality which will be so missed when the time comes. I‘m just trying to love on him as much as I can while I have the chance. 5y
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville Thank you. It helps having the other two, but it‘s still hard. I‘m just glad he‘s acting fine and being himself. 5y

Excited that this came in for me at the library! Less excited - though of course I should not be surprised - that what is truly just a list (plus references and index) of the democracy-threatening events/acts/moments that occurred within the administration‘s first year alone is such a thick tome. 😩 Priceless Samantha Bee blurb on the back, though. 😆

Riveted_Reader_Melissa This is on my list to read too. But I‘m thinking I should buy it with cash, read it, and then hide it some place safe...just in case the future book burners come hunting all copies of it down. Just kidding, but only half really. 🙁😱 6y
Christine @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes, you should!! 😂...and also 😭. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Christine it‘s a crazy world! 6y

BarbaraTheBibliophage Part of me wants to read this. And another part imagines I‘ll just end up moaning on the floor in a fetal position. 6y
Samplergal @BarbaraTheBibliophage I think it‘s important for us to keep on top of it, no matter how distressing and exhausting it is to us. I wanted documentation of it because it‘s beyond frightening. 6y
Samplergal @Elle_Skeldon it was still lovely. Lobsters and lobster bisque most nights. Great weather for chowder! 6y
