The Shelters of Stone (with Bonus Content)
The Shelters of Stone (with Bonus Content): Earth's Children, Book Five | Jean M. Auel
This eBook includes the full text of the novel plus the following additional content: An exclusive preview chapter from Jean M. Auels The Land of Painted Caves, on sale in hardcover March 29, 2011 An Earths Children series sampler including free chapters from the other books in Jean M. Auels bestselling series A Q&A with the author about the Earths Children series The Shelters of Stone opens as Ayla and Jondalar, along with their animal friends, Wolf, Whinney, and Racer, complete their epic journey across Europe and are greeted by Jondalars people: the Zelandonii. The people of the Ninth Cave of the Zelandonii fascinate Ayla. Their clothes, customs, artifacts, even their homesformed in great cliffs of vertical limestoneare a source of wonder to her. And in the woman Zelandoni, the spiritual leader of the Ninth Cave (and the one who initiated Jondalar into the Gift of Pleasure), she meets a fellow healer with whom to share her knowledge and skills. But as Ayla and Jondalar prepare for the formal mating at the Summer Meeting, there are difficulties. Not all the Zelandonii are welcoming. Some fear Aylas unfamiliar ways and abhor her relationship with those they call flatheads and she calls Clan. Some even oppose her mating with Jondalar, and make their displeasure known. Ayla has to call on all her skills, intelligence, knowledge, and instincts to find her way in this complicated society, to prepare for the birth of her child, and to decide whether she will accept new challenges and play a significant role in the destiny of the Zelandonii. Jean Auel is at her very best in this superbly textured creation of a prehistoric society. The Shelters of Stone is a sweeping story of love and danger, with all the wonderful detailbased on meticulous research that makes her novels unique. It is a triumphant continuation of the Earths Children saga that began with The Clan of the Cave Bear. And it includes an amazing rhythmic poem that describes the birth of Earths Children and plays its own role in the narrative of The Shelters of Stone.

Maybe I‘m tiring of the series. Or maybe it‘s my mood? Most of this was just background noise while I was driving. 2/5🪨s

Pickpick

I am really enjoying these stories although the repetition of information from the previous books is a bit too much, as well as too much educational information about the land, time and animals. The story gets bogged down at times with just too much extras, but the story itself is still wonderful and captivating. If I didn't love the story and characters so much the extras would ruin it and possibly cause me not to continue. 3.5🌟 #108of2018

Daisey I loved the early part of this series but had a tough time with the last two. 6y

A reread of #5 of The Children of Earth series. It has been a number of years since I read this. It‘s still just as good! Auel, write me some more prehistoric novels or some archeology!

The second #bookhaul from mom's attic. Dad says I can only go through one box a day... 😰 But I want to see all the books!!!

DebinHawaii Nice! 👍📚 7y
DebReads4fun Jean Auel is one of my favorite authors! 7y
Vexingcircumstance Why can you only go through one box a day? 7y
Brenley @Vexingcircumstance there are like 4 or 5 boxes and they are all up in the attic. So it's a job to bring them all down and I'm only at my parents until Monday. I think it's a clever plot to get me to come over more often 😉 it will work! (edited) 7y
Vexingcircumstance Lol. Makes sense. I wondered if it was an excuse to get you to come over more. 7y
