I would use this book to teach children about history. This book touches on how people throughout history embraces the day. Also, I would use this book to teach children to live every day to the fullest.

This is an award winning book about starting the day and living every day to the fullest. This book talks about how cavemen, the Aztecs, ancient Egyptians, celebrated the dawn.

I found this book difficult to read. It took me a few times through to be able to grasp what was being said. The illustrations, however, are beautiful and give more meaning to the story once the ideas are figured out.

This Caldecott Award winning book tells of the different ways days are started around the world. Different cultures have their own traditions and routines, but we all wake to the same sun.

This book is very unique (1977). The color usage and way in which the sentences are set are something that I have not seen before. I enjoyed the story and meaning of this book and would recommend highly.
The word usage throughout the book was descriptive and involved imagery. Something that aided with the imagery were the illustrations. They were some of the most beautiful I had seen in a book.
“When you feel the sun
you'll feel
the song too.“

I enjoyed the historical references that the author brought into the story, such as the Mayan empire.

This book could be enjoyed by a variety of people. I think it gives a great message of starting every day being thankful for the day that you were given. I think the book got a little repetitive but besides that I enjoyed the historical aspect that the author brought into the book.

Fell in love with this children's book today (from 1986). All about various ways people honor the morning sun. Here's the page 1 text (which is formatted like poetry): "The way to start the day is this -- Go outside and face the east and greet the sun with some kind of blessing or chant or song that you made for yourself and keep for early morning." The illustration style is spot on. As visually compelling as it is soulful to read.
