The best-selling author of Library Lion pairs with award-winning illustrator Matt Phelan to create a picture book gem with an unexpected twist. Some of the kids in Marilyns class have monsters. Marilyn doesnt have hers yet, but she cant just go out and look for one. Your monster has to find you. Thats just the way it works. Marilyn tries to be patient and the kind of girl no monster can resist, but her monster doesnt come. Could she go out and search for him herself? Even if thats not the way it works? From favorite picture-book creators Michelle Knudsen and Matt Phelan comes a story about one little girl and the perfect monster she knows is out there . . . and what happens when she decides shes waited long enough.

This book was adorable. Marilyn is the last kid to be found by her monster. She feels lonely and left out. She decides to go against the grain and go look for her monster, and it‘s a good thing she did. The watercolor illustrations are simply lovely and make this book better than the story alone.

I know I've been MiA lately--sorry! I've been really distracted lately (well, let's be honest, probably for the last six months) and spending most of my time with my little minion, as well as growing another one. But I'm here for the moment! #ShakespeareReadalong folks, I've fallen way behind but plan to read The Winter's Tale at some point this month. We'll be reading Twelfth Night in January, led by me, and I'll post a schedule for that soon!

Delayed post #2: In a world where every child has a monster who finds them and becomes their best friend and playmate, Marilyn‘s monster hasn‘t shown up. She waits and waits until everyone she knows has their monster. And then, despite her brother‘s insistence that “it doesn‘t work that way,” Marilyn goes looking for her monster herself. This is a really sweet picture book with great friendly monster illustrations!
