Best-Laid Plants
Best-Laid Plants: A Potting Shed Mystery | Marty Wingate
9 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
A trip to the English countryside turns into a brush with death for Pru Parke, the only gardener whose holiday wouldnt be complete without a murder to solve. Pru and her husband, former Detective Chief Inspector Christopher Pearse, are long overdue for a getaway. So when Pru is invited to redesign an Arts and Crafts garden in the picturesque Cotswolds, she and Christopher jump at the chance. Unfortunately, their B&B is more ramshackle than charming, and the once thriving garden, with its lovely Thyme Walk, has fallen into heartbreaking neglect. With the gardens owner and designer, Batsford Bede, under the weather, Pru tackles the renovation alone. But just as shes starting to make headway, she stumbles upon Batsfords body in the gardendead and pinned beneath one of his limestone statues. With such a small police force in the area, Christopher is called upon to lead the investigation. Pru cant imagine anyone murdering Batsford Bede, a gentle man who preferred to spend his time in quiet contemplation, surrounded by nature. But as her work on the garden turns up one ominous clue after another, Pru discovers that the scenery is more dangerous than she or Christopher could have anticipated. 1. Orchids and yellow roses
2. Green beans
3. No houseplants, flowers, or garden. I‘m looking forward to when we have our own home and we can plant flowers and a small garden.
4. Wicked Plants

I did manage to finish this one over the weekend, the 6th book in a cozy-mystery series about a 50-ish American garden expert who has settled in England restoring gardens & solving mysteries. I'm a fan of Pru, the MC & her supporting characters-always full of quirky locals-but the mystery was a bit too easily solved for me & Pru a tad more scattered than usual. Still, it's good cozy fun & a fine addition to the series. 🌸🌳📚Tagging Book 1👇🏻

I did leave my introverting today & break my rule of no retail on Thanksgiving &/or Black Friday to make a dash to Ben Franklin Crafts for their Thanksgiving Day "B.Y.O. Bag" & get 30% off the entire purchase. I swung through SBUX drive thru & got there 15 minutes before opening, planning on reading but the line to get in was forming so I left my drink & jumped in. Crafters are ?! But 90 minutes door to door & I have #bookmarkswap supplies.??

Getting back to my current cozy mystery & getting cozy because it's 68 degrees F. tonight & below 70 is considered 'chilly' here--at least by the weather people.😆 So socks, a light blanket & a bowl of popcorn to nosh on & maybe a cup of tea later--and a viewing of Planes, Trains & Automobile--November's film pick for the movie/food blogging event I take part in. A good Saturday night. 📚🍿🎬

Reggie I remember when I used to live in southern NM where 65 was freezing but then I moved to northern NM where one of my first winters here there was a gas outage on the weekend it went -13. There‘s a difference. Lol 7y
DebinHawaii @Reggie Hah! 😆Yes and the blood thins after you are in a warm climate for a while for sure. I'm not sure I could survive -13 any more! 😬 7y

Day 14 #emojinov #🇬🇧Back home after a meeting & library stop & now having a lunch break with a big bowl of Sunday's 'chicken' noodle soup (made vegan with jackfruit-still tastes like childhood!)😋🍲Squeezing in a few chapters of the latest in this cozy mystery series set in Britain. The MC is a 50-ish American gardener who is now living & working in estate gardens in the English countryside. Links to 1st book & her other 🇬🇧-set cozy series👇🏻

It's Wednesday so it must be 'avocado toast with spicy garlic aioli breakfast at the coffeeshop day.' It's 74 degrees F. & drizzly at the moment, which qualifies as 'slightly chilly' in Hawaii 😆so I replaced my usual cold brew with a press of local coffee. Reading a bit more of this cozy mystery before starting some work projects. Hope your 🐪 day is going well.

KVanRead Oh I haven‘t seen one of your avocado toast posts in so long!! Yum! 😋 7y

UrsulaMonarch ? Hawaiian "slightly chilly"! Just a step up from the Bay Area ?? 7y
DebinHawaii @KVanRead @Bklover 🥑🍞💚😆 @Lkelly Yes! It makes me laugh when the morning news people warn that it's 'slightly chilly' or when it gets anywhere near 70 or below 'chilly' out. 🌴❄️🤣 7y

It's Friday! Starting the morning with my usual Friday, Acai bowl breakfast & a press of Maui Mocca Peaberry coffee & a bit of the newest book in this gardening cozy mystery series I enjoy. Looking forward to #litsypartyofone tonight--after I get some work done. It's a good afternoon/evening to hole up at home as the big 🍊menace is making a visit on his way to Asia.🙄🤢😖Hopefully North Korea won't take any opportunities while he's in town...😱
