The illustrations of this story follow a theme. They are all mostly done in black and white, but whatever Olivia wear is bright red. This is the brightest pop of color on each page, which draw your central focus to Olivia when looking at the illustrations.

I think this is a super cute, fun book that would be good for younger kids and possibly even older kids! I think when reading, it would be a great opportunity when trying to teach kids about routines. I also think it would be great to read and then talk about things that each student is really good at. Using it as a morale/ self esteem booster.

This would be a great story to incorporate at the beginning of the year, to get to know your students better. Overall, this story, invites the students to think about their favorite interests and hobbies. In the story, Olivia gets a time out, because she paints on the wall at home. This part of the story will allow you for discussion about how accidents happen and there may be consequences for those actions being made.

Olivia is a book that I loved as a kid! This Caldecott award winning book is a MF. It would be a great RA for your class! Olivia is about a pig names Olivia and her life! This would go great with UDL 3.1 (activate or supply background knowledge) as well as EL 4 (link lesson topic to students prior knowledge). Students can use their background knowledge to relate to Olivia, the pig. #ucflae3414sp21

Olivia.. oh Olivia. This Caldecott award winning MF picture book by Ian Falconer is about a little piggy named Olivia who likes to do anything but sleep! Her job must be to wear everyone out. What adventure will Olivia bring you on... you‘ll have to read to find out! This book makes for a great DR due to Olivias very bold and dramatic personality! #ucflae3414su20

bsiqueira https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Olivia/Ian-Falconer/9781416980346 This website provides a wonderful activity to assess the students knowledge after performing the DR. “Olivia”, modern fantasy, is by Ian Falconer and has earned a Caldecott medal. It can be used as an independent read, read aloud, or adapted as a reader‘s theater. Olivia is a confident, strong-minded, sassy piggy. This book goes through Olivia‘s days which are always different because she has varied interests from soccer to drama. She always puts her own “Olivia” flair to them. This book can serve as a mirror to a strong-willed child.

amandar Some support materials are available on this website, https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/olivia . UDL 7.2 and 1.1 work and ESOL strategies 4 and 24 best apply as there are copies available in different languages. #UCFLAE3414sp20 3y
DrSpalding I love these books! Children are often times aware of this character because of the cartoon. Reading is fundamental is an excellent resource to use and I like the idea of offering this book in multiple languages. 3y

This Caldecott Honor picture book is a classic MF about a pig named Olivia who is very hyper and loves to annoy her mother and brother. However, they love her anyway. This story would work as a DR because Olivia‘s character is very dramatic so it would be easy to reenact how she acts in the book. https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/olivia This site contains many resources and activities to assess students comprehension of the book and engage

leximcmillin students more in the lesson. A UDL strategy that aligns this book is 3.4 Maximize transfer and generalization. An EL strategy that could go with this book is 1. Teach questioning for clarification. 3y
DrSpalding All of the Olivia books are valuable contributions to an elementary classroom library. I specifically enjoy Olivia goes to Venice. Use these books and resources like this to assist students in comprehension and simply foster a love of reading. 3y

Olivia by Ian Falconer was written in 2000 and is a Caldecott Honor book. This book is interesting and fun to follow along with. You never know what Olivia is going to do next and her personality makes it all that more enjoyable. This would really intrigue kids because I feel like they can relate to what Olivia does. The illustrations are minimalistic and well done and add to the experience of the book.

I think this is an awesome book for children to read because it is relatable to them. Children enjoy the same activities as Olivia and they also dislike the same things Olivia dislikes, such as bed time. I think there is a good message in the book for children as well. Even when they are super energetic, color on the walls and even refuse bedtime their caregivers still love them even when they wear them out.

Olivia by Ian Falconer, 2000. Caldecott Award Winning Book. Olivia does a lot of fun things but sometimes she wears others out, and herself. Olivia tries on all of her clothes, she learns how to build a sandcastle, and goes to a museum. She does not like bedtime and is never tired but after a bath, dinner, and three bedtime stories she is ready for bed. Every night her mom gives her a kiss and says even though you wear me out I love you anyway.

I know a lot of people love this book and the others in this series. I thought it was just okay. Illustrations were beautiful but the story about Olivia and her wearing her parents and others out just didn‘t do it for me. Story was a bit simple and iI‘d rather read other more interesting books out there that show young girls how to be true to themselves. Maybe the other stories are better?

Just like many children, Olivia has a lot of energy and likes to keep on moving! Olivia is a MF picture book written and illustrated by Ian Falconer, and it tells the story about a sweet little pig who wears her parents out. Even after a long day of doing things, Olivia does not get sleepy. Kids would love Olivia because she is very relatable and fun! MeganKlein EL strategy 15 (reinforce key ideas) and UDL principle 1.1 (customize display of info) align perfectly with the storytelling (S) teaching strategy. A S would be a great way to bring this book to life and a teacher could use several props to mimic all the things Olivia does in this book! 4y
