Mehso-so

Overall, I liked this book more than most of my other #HorrifiedReads so far. The writing was a bit better & the characters more relatable. There were cringy bits, like Elaine's friend who used to be overweight helping the new girl lose weight; they called their support system the 'fatline'. Predictable, with lessons like you CAN be smart AND pretty & at age 17 don't date a rich 21 year-old who gives you champagne to get you in his hot tub. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sace Oh! I didn't realize when you first posted this that Eileen Goudge wrote it. Didn't she go in to write for adults? I wonder how many authors started with this genre. 7y
TK-421 @restlessficklebookslut Yes, she did! I haven't read any of her other work, but one of the writing books I want to read examines her novel Garden of Lies, along with works by other best-selling authors (Mario Puzo, Ken Follett, Margaret Mitchell, Colleen McCullough). I was wondering too, about how many writers started off writing stuff like this before they moved on to bigger and better things. 7y
Sace I also begin to wonder how much freedom authors had in writing these. I recall reading that authors of a lot of series fiction for children and young teens were often given the outline of the stories by someone else 7y
TK-421 @RestlessFickleBookSlut Series written by ghostwriters (eg SVH) had to follow guidelines so I wouldn't be surprised if was the same for other series that were written by a variety of authors (Sweet Dreams, Wildfire). The Seniors series seems to be written by Eileen Goudge exclusively but it was published on the Laurel Leaf Library imprint of Dell Publishing (their teen fiction brand I assume), so who knows how much freedom she had? Makes me think 7y

Well, I tried Sisters & Sweet Valley High 🙄 Next up for #HorrifiedReads: Seniors.

RebL What a rad layout! 7y
TK-421 @RebL Awesome! 😂 Thanks! 7y
Smrloomis Oh wow those covers! 😆 7y
Sace HANDS OFF HE'S MINE! 😂 Because delving into the issues of why this 16 year old is in foster care is to bothersome. 😑 Though that series does sound a little edgier (for lack of a better word.) 7y
