The Map of Chaos
The Map of Chaos: A Novel | Félix J. Palma
7 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Map of Time and The Map of the Sky, the final installment in the award-winning trilogy that The Washington Post called “a big, genre-bending delight.” When the person he loves most dies in tragic circumstances, the mysterious protagonist of The Map of Chaos does all he can to speak to her one last time. A session with a renowned medium seems to offer the only solution, but the experience unleashes terrible forces that bring the world to the brink of disaster. Salvation can only be found in The Map of Chaos, an obscure book that he is desperate to uncover. In his search, he is given invaluable help by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Lewis Carroll, and of course by H. G. Wells, whose Invisible Man seems to have escaped from the pages of his famous novel to sow terror among mankind. They alone can discover the means to save the world and to find the path that will reunite the lovers separated by death. Proving once again that he is “a master of ingenious plotting” (Kirkus Reviews), Félix J. Palma brings together a cast of real and imagined literary characters in Victorian-Age London, when spiritualism is at its height. The Map of Chaos is a spellbinding adventure that mixes impossible loves, nonstop action, real ghosts, and fake mediums, all while paying homage to the giants of science fiction.

Pickpick

Though I‘m just a touch disappointed that the book cover designers did not put an 8-pointed star on the cover, it is the only quibble I have about the whole genre-bending Victoria Trilogia! The final book wraps everything up with a bit of extra melodrama, fun, action and thrills! Lewis Carroll & Sir Arthur Conan Doyle show up with all the usual suspects😉

Darthdad I‘m glad to see that someone else enjoyed this series as well. I picked up the first book based on a librarian recommendation and loved them all. 4y

I read "The map of time" a long time ago and I loved it: victorian England, time travel, intricate stories. Then I found out it was part of a trilogy, but the last one was never translated in Italian, so I forgot about it. Now that I can read in English I'm very excited to start this one (and I hope there will not be a lot of references to the other books).

I'm not sure what qualifies as steampunk. My interpretation (sans Google) is Victorian dystopian/science fiction with cool gadgets and outfits, along the lines of H.G. Wells. I love that premise and don't know why I haven't read more of it. I've read the first two books in this series by Felix J Palma, which features a fictional H.G. Wells. This is the third in the series (and the only one I could grab). #steampunk #seasonsreadings2016

Me and my bright ideas 💡😞The photo on the left isn't the half of it. Photo on the right shows some progress on the top two shelves. Good news is that I've pulled the AtoZ challenge books and they are on a shelf behind me, and the poetry shelf in another room is done.

Zelma The progress picture looks great! Nice work! 👠7y

SharonGoforth @NatalieR Thanks 😊. I must say, though, it was too much for me and I ended up stuffing stacks of books wherever they would fit 😟. I did manage to get the book off the floor and the desk, so it wasn't a total waste of time. 7y
NatalieR It is an exhausting task. Reward yourself with reading time! 😊 7y
