Dreams from Nepal: The Emotional Story of a Twelve-Year-Old Nepali Boy
Dreams from Nepal: The Emotional Story of a Twelve-Year-Old Nepali Boy | Bikul Koirala
6 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Twelve-year-old Ram was born and raised in a small village in Nepal. He's destined to be a village farmer like his father, but he dreams of so much more. Then, a mysterious opportunity in the form of an olive-green Land Rover comes to whisk him away into a new life. Through dedicated service and the gift of education, Ram can become more than he ever thought possible. As he transitions to adulthood, though, he begins to wonder if the path he's on is the right one for him. A voice is telling him to "go home," but he's not sure where home is anymore. The choice he makes can alter the lives of everyone around him, but it's up to him to find out what the right choice really is. Dreams from Nepal is the emotional, powerful story of a twelve-year-old Nepali boy's journey through faith, love, and unbreakable determination to live a better life.

Anyone else who‘s going to #Nepal for #passportLitsy #LitsyPassport, stay away from this book. The writing is clunky, the characters are cardboard cutouts, and the plotting is not believable. Plus, for no apparent reason, except to make the subtitle true, the MC dies in the end. The last two sentences actually are: “They walked toward her solemnly, carrying the shiny coffin. At last Ram was home. The End.” @maximoffs

I‘m having difficulty believing in this book. Ram is 12, undereducated, and from a rural village. Yet we‘re expected to believe that he has thoughts like this about the family he works for? It doesn‘t fit. Perhaps as an adult looking back on this experience he might have such thoughts. But not as a 12 year old boy. I‘ll finish it, but only because it‘s #nepal for #passportLitsy. @maximoffs

“As was his way when this bread appeared, he doused it thoroughly in the lentil broth, knowing his mother‘s talents in the kitchen could make even this unappealing bread palatable.” Although this bread looks pretty good to me!#inthekitchen #scenesfromabook @JoeStalksBeck #LitsyPassport #Nepal @maximoffs

tournevis I think the only one I'm in for is #Frenchlittens. If I'm actually registered for it. I don't remember if there was a registration process. 6y
Lcsmcat There‘s no registration, just pick your French language books and tag me. I‘ll use the hashtag #frenchlittens for anyone who wants to read along, and I‘ll try to post buddyread-type announcements whenever I start a new work. 6y
Dulcinella Ok, great! I will join if it‘s a book I haven‘t read. 6y
Lindy I will try to remember to use #Frenchlittens next time I read something in French. 😀 6y
