The Creeps
The Creeps: A Deep Dark Fears Collection | Fran Krause
24 posts | 14 read | 20 to read
A follow-up to the New York Times best-selling Deep Dark Fears: a second volume of comics based on people's quirky, spooky, hilarious, and terrifying fears. Illustrator, animator, teacher, and comic artist Fran Krause has touched a collective nerve with his wildly popular web comic series--and subsequent New York Times best-selling book--Deep Dark Fears. Here he brings readers more of the creepy, funny, and idiosyncratic fears they love illustrated in comic form--such as the fear that your pets will tell other animals all your embarrassing secrets, or that someone uses your house while you're not home--as well as two longer comic short-stories about ghosts.

Same, tbh... 🤣

This also reminds me of that episode of House where a cat was ‘predicting‘ the deaths of coma patients (or some kind of long term care patients, it‘s been a while since I‘ve watched the show) - and ever since watching that I‘m always slightly suspicious when my pets are nicer or cuddlier than usual 😹

Scochrane26 I‘m the same way ever since I heard stories about cats sitting on the beds of dying nursing home patients. 3y
Hooked_on_books I had a dog who was friendly when he wanted to be but otherwise preferred to lay down nearby on his own. One day he stuck to me like glue in a very unusual way. I finally asked him, “what is it Gunther? Am I dying?!?” 😆 This was several years ago, so I wasn‘t. But it can be so disconcerting! 3y
Crazeedi My husband just said the other day that our lab was hanging by him unusually, maybe I'm going to die, I was like SHUT UP!!! 3y
Eyelit @Scochrane26 @Hooked_on_books @Crazeedi so glad to know I‘m not alone 😄 3y

The Creeps by Fran Krause was another wonderful collection of illustrated fears that range from silly, to horribly sad, to absolutely terrifying!

?

Haha it's not often too scary, but occasionally one will really land creepily well, probably due to each of our own weird little collection of neuroses. There are some longer form stories as well, mixed in with the "fears".

@LibrarianRyan : I just found people‘s fears curious; and, quite frankly, even relatable. This was on their Instagram the other day. I‘ve never done this, but it made me laugh.

hike.read.repeat My cat once expressed curiosity at the dryer when I was putting clothes in. Now it‘s a legit fear of mine that he will sneak in there somehow without me noticing when putting clothes in. 😹 I always make sure he stays away. 6y
GarthRanzz My Remy, who passed away quite a few years ago now, used to sit in front of the dryer waiting for it to stop. The second it was opened he would burrow into the warm clothes for a nap. 6y
LibrarianRyan Hadn't seen that one. 6y

2BR02B My co-worker's cat climbed into a front-loading washing machine! Thank God she heard the meows and was able to rescue her after only a minute or two. Apparently it happens all too often, and usually doesn't end well for the kitty. 😓 6y
Purrfectpages My friend has a cat that loves to do this! 6y
Elisa Oh wow, does this really happen?? 6y
Eggs We had a cat who liked to nap in the drier; he accidentally had a wild ride, poor baby; but he was okay 6y
OrangeMooseReads Izzy likes to jump in the dryer when it‘s open, but I always make sure she gets out. 6y

What a fun little book! I think people's quirks are so interesting, and through fears is one way for them to manifest. Everyone has weird anxieties or rituals to ward off monsters that carry over from childhood. If you get me really and truly scared (and alone), you may just hear me sing the Barney song quietly to myself...(🎶I love you, you love meeee, we're a happy familyyyy🎶) #letsgetgraphicweeklongmarathon

Andrea4 Haha that, in itself, would probably scare me!😂 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Andrea4 My singing? Oh yeah, it's creep city. I just remember once being very scared in my adulthood and that coming out and being VERY surprised that was still an instinct I had. 😂 6y
Andrea4 Yea, If you were a kid and singing that in the dark- I'd look for holy water to throw on you 😂😂😂 6y

RealLifeReading Hmm I don't know whether to read this or not! 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @RealLifeReading It's not really that scary--it's bunch of scenarios ppl are afraid of, illustrated. Some are more pedestrian, some are pretty gross...😆 6y

SandyW Well that's disturbing! 6y
Kaye That‘s why I don‘t own a scale and don‘t want one. Your weight tends to fluctuate a bit anyhow. I‘ve been going to the gym since January and have drug my lazy *** up there even on days when I don‘t feel well, am really tired, or just plain not in the mood. I‘ve missed about a week total. I know it‘s working. My clothes are flapping in the wind. If I weighed myself and gained weight, I‘d stop going to the gym. Dr visit in less than 2 weeks 😱 6y
Clwojick Wooot! 👏👏👏 I applaud you! I've been having a heck of a time gettin my butt there lately! And I'm the same as you, I'll weigh myself every few months, but I know the weight isn't what really matters. Hoping to get back into a serious gym routine by the new year. 😬 6y

Bookzombie Ugh! I like to stick my foot out if I‘m hot but I don‘t like to let it hang over the bed. I know it‘s a silly fear but it‘s one I have. 😳 6y

These books by Fran Krause make me laugh every time. People send in little stories about things that scare them, or give them the creeps, and he illustrates them. Love it!

2.5⭐️
The best way to describe this book is a list of fears, both real and imagined. The author has added comic graphics to each fear to make it more real. Some are really funny, like worrying about spiders in your ears when you weigh more in the morning then you did when you went to bed. Some are just normal, and many are boring. This book was an interesting read, but not one that I would buy, buy for others, or buy for my library collection.

It was a super fast read but memorable. This book will stay with you the rest of your life.

I didn't know it was book two to a series which is a sad. Now I need to hunt down book one, because I don't want to miss anything. Haha. If it is anything like this, It is worth the read.

Fran Krause had users submit their fears to him, and he created this fantastic little graphic novel depicting each of them. It‘s cute, spooky, and a perfect halloween read! Releasing in stores tomorrow. 😊

This is a sometimes creepy, sometimes cute, list of fears we have all probably had. It is an awesome collection and i could relate to many of these fears.
