The Ruin of Angels
The Ruin of Angels: A Novel of the Craft Sequence | Max Gladstone
6 posts | 8 read | 6 to read
Max Gladstone returns with The Ruin of Angels, the sixth novel in the Hugo-nominated Craft Sequence, which The Washington Post calls "the best kind of urban fantasy" and NPR calls "sharp, original, and passionate" The God Wars destroyed the city of Alikand. Now, a century and a half and a great many construction contracts later, Agdel Lex rises in its place. Dead deities litter the surrounding desert, streets shift when people arent looking, a squidlike tower dominates the skyline, and the foreign Iskari Rectification Authority keeps strict order in this once-independent citywhile treasure seekers, criminals, combat librarians, nightmare artists, angels, demons, dispossessed knights, grad students, and other fools gather in its ever-changing alleys, hungry for the next big score. Priestess/investment banker Kai Pohala (last seen in Full Fathom Five) hits town to corner Agdel Lexs burgeoning nightmare startup scene, and to visit her estranged sister Ley. But Kai finds Ley desperate at the center of a shadowy, and rapidly unravelling, business deal. When Ley ends up on the run, wanted for a crime she most definitely committed, Kai races to track her sister down before the Authority finds her first. But Ley has her own plans, involving her ex-girlfriend, a daring heist into the god-haunted desert, and, perhaps, freedom for an occupied city. Because Alikand might not be completely deadand some people want to finish the job. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

New books in the mail today! I'm only a little bit frustrated that the cover art for the Craft Sequence books isn't going to match now.

This book was amazing. I think it's my favorite of the Craft Sequence so far, and that's saying a lot because I've loved all the others. This one is full of action and romance and intrigue and twists. Good grief! I can't wait to see what Gladstone does next!

This was fantastic. As usual, I didn't fully understand all of the technical bits the first time through, but the story is awesome despite that. Rereading this series will be a treat.

I love this cover! Even though I'm sad to see the departure of the art and naming system of the previous books in the series, I'm excited to discover the next chapter in this fascinating world.

KtheBookwyrm @krysannethemums I pre-ordered it on Amazon, so I'm assuming it came out within the last few days. I powered through The Crown Tower so I could start it. ~100 pages in, seeing familiar faces! 7y
