“Bartleby, the Scrivener” by Herman Melville

“The Immortals” by Jorge Luis Borges

“Hills like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway

And an honorable mention to “Super Human” by Nicola Yoon from the collection Fresh Ink that I recently read

dabbe #1: 🤩 “I would prefer not to.“
#'s 2 and 3: on the good ol' TBR! Thanks for sharing. 💚💙💚

Looks like I won‘t finish another book before 2018 begins, but I am pretty happy with this total (2 more than 2016!).

Tagged book was the longest and one of my favorites. At 1478 pages, it also made up a full 12% of pages I read this year 👍

Pickpick

Officially a Herman Melville fan girl. If you are too intimidated by Moby Dick, starting with Billy Budd or some of his short stories (Bartelby!) is a good way to go.

Tfw a stranger decides to give you advice when you've barely met (from "The Confidence Man")

"From the outset, the sophomore, as has been seen, struggled with an ever-increasing embarrassment, arising, perhaps, from such strange remarks coming from a stranger - such persistent and prolonged remarks, too."

Today is Election Day in my corner of Iowa. My polling place is in the local library, so what better excuse is there to pick up a book?

shortsarahrose Also, today is apparently Herman Melville's birthday, which I didn't know when I checked this out. 🐳🎉 7y
