I enjoyed that the plot kept giving in terms of reveals! The siblings kept learning about alliances & choices that their father had made to which few were aware. It kept the story spinning while trying to see how far their father‘s influence truly stretched, even after his death. This series was good, well done but not a barn burner. I did love sitting on the porch reading it immensely, though.

I just started imagining Kit Harrington as Valyn with a tan and it's working so well for me on so many levels 😁

The 1st book in this series, "The Emperor's Blades" was a little "paint-by-the-numbers" but was mostly quite satisfying. Here's hoping this 2nd book will resolve a major lack of character development for 1 main character and continue to be a fun read.
