Pickpick

Cornelius is a fable by Leo Lionni and is a great TL. Leo Lionni has told several other fables such as Frederick, which is one of his more well known stories. Having retold several other stories Leo Lionni would be a great author to do an AS on as a class or in small groups. Cornelius is all about a crocodile that can walk standing upright and when the other crocodiles don‘t seem to care he goes off and meets a monkey that teaches him other tricks

Kaelya That he takes back to the other crocodiles to show off and none of them seemed cared so when they thought Cornelius wasn‘t watching they attempted the new tricks. I would use UDL 7.2 to make the story relevant since everyone has a talent that not everyone can do and this story shows that. The ESOL strat I would use is 4 for the same reason I would you UDL 7.2, to make it important to the students. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 (edited) 6y

Pickpick

Cornelius by Leo Lionni is listed as traditional literature (TL) also as won Caldecott honor award for his cute and silly book. Children in the elementary level and early middle school will enjoy this book. Cornelius was a unique reptile and he could do things that his friends couldn't do. One day Cornelius meets a friend and he ask him if he will show him how to stand on his head and swing by his tail. It'll allow students to understand that

Hervela.L it's OK to be different. Teaching strategy that will align well is (S) storytelling to the students. I believe this would be a great story to engage the students with. 6y
Hervela.L This website will allows student to think a A little deeper and predict about the story. This site also provide I wonder worksheets that allowed the students to write down while being read to. http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/wonder-lionni-inc... (edited) 6y
Hervela.L The UDL I chose that best goes along with the story is 3.2 highlighting patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. This UDL allows students to connect to there personal experience with the overall "big picture" in the story. El strategies that mash well is 31: write instructions and problems using short and less complex sentences. Also 4. Link lesson topic to students' prior knowledge. (edited) 6y
DrSpalding This author is one of my favorites. You will find out in class when I discuss author studies. These fables can share valuable lessons with students. He makes for an excellent author study. You have so many choices! 6y

Mehso-so

Cornelius is a TL fable by Leo Lionni. It shares a story on individuality and differences. Others may judge you, but they still want to be you. Here's a lesson plan working with Cornelius and other Leo Lionni books from ReadWriteThink: http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/wonder-lionni-inc.... #UCFLAE3414su17

Ashleywwolfe I like your link for comprehension input ideas! I think, even though you feel meh about the book, it would be a good add to a Leo Lionni collection since he is such an acclaimed children's author. (edited) 7y
Kennedys I like how you included resources for this book as well as Leo's other books! 7y
DrSpalding Wonderful peer comments and of course an excellent resource; read write think! 7y
