Ithaca: A Novel of Homer's Odyssey
Ithaca: A Novel of Homer's Odyssey | Patrick Dillon
Telemachus's journey takes him across the landscape of bronze-age Greece in the aftermath of the great Trojan war. Veterans hide out in the hills. Chieftains, scarred by war, hoard their treasure in luxurious palaces. Ithaca re-tells Homer s famous poem, The Odyssey, from the point of view of Odysseus resourceful and troubled son, describing Odysseus s extraordinary voyage from Troy to the gates of hell, and Telemachus s own journey from boyhood to the desperate struggle that wins back his home and his father. Working weekends means I don't get to participate in #24in48, but it also means #bookmail!!! I can't wait to read this gorgeous retelling of the Odyssey... right after I finish listening to the Odyssey

Pickpick

I was wary of a retelling of Homer's Odyssey, a work I've read, studied, and enjoyed; but the approach of telling the story from 16-yo Telemachus' POV enabled the author to give fresh eyes to the story of the Greek hero's return. The mid-sections from Odysseus' & Emaeus' POV are equally well painted
