14 posts | 10 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
A terrible crime. No obvious motive. Banks is on the case. 'Top-notch police procedure' - Jeffery Deaver A shocking mass murder occurs at a wedding in a small Dales church and a huge manhunt follows. Eventually, the shooter is run to ground and things take their inevitable course. But Banks is plagued with doubts as to exactly what happened outside the church that day, and why. Struggling with the death of his first serious girlfriend and the return of profiler Jenny Fuller into his life, Banks feels the need to dig deeper into the murders, and as he does so, he uncovers forensic and psychological puzzles that lead him to the past secrets that might just provide the answers he is looking for. When the surprising truth becomes clear, it is almost too late.

I will also never read a Peter Robinson book again, this was painful to get through, and at the risk of sounding sexist, it deterred me from buying male authors for a while. So boring it put me in a reading slump.

What happened Detective Superintendent Banks? High hopes for this one, but it just seems written by rote, touches base on modern social themes like checking off a dry list; there is no there, there!

In Sleeping in the Ground, Detective Superintendent Alan Banks investigates a shocking mass murder that occurs during a wedding outside a small church in the Yorkshire Dales. Don't miss Peter Robinson reading from the 24th book in his internationally bestselling series at #emwf18! bit.ly/2ts0Aw7 #canlit #dcibanks #crimefiction

Has a powerful start w/5 people shot at a wedding. Killer is announced early in the book but doesn't feel right for Banks. After a lot interviews, Banks is now sure that the killer is still on the loose. Robinson is an expert in his characterizations. I love his attention to detail. The music references throughout is one of the best features. Love that Jenny is back and Annie is having a hard time with this. Best to read the books in order.

LiteraryinLawrence Which is the first in the series? 6y
Andrew65 @LiteraryinLititz A brilliant series which only gets better from the first one. Big recommendation! 6y

Starting my weekend read, Sleeping in the Ground. This is the most recent book in one of my favourite series, the DCI Banks series. If you like Detective series this is a series you need to read. This one is book 24 and the only one I have not read in the series.

The latest DCI Banks procedural. The book opens with a mass shooting at a wedding. The usual personal lives of Banks, Annie, Ray and some old characters return and old truths are revealed. Always good books to listen to on a commute - not as violent as many. 3 1/2 ⭐️

So this happened last night! Attended the IFOA last night where Peter Robinson, my absolute favourite author was speaking and reading from his new book. And I was lucky enough to grab a photo, an autograph and have a little chat. Already looking forward to his next book!

Inspectors Banks at his best. And, an old flame emerges to distract Banks from his music and poetry.

Every time a pick up a Peter Robinson book it's like getting together with an old friend. The characters are familiar and I love his writing style. I've been reading about Inspector Banks solving crimes for years now and I'm enjoying how he is changing over the years. One day I'll have to go back and read them all again from the beginning! Pure enjoyment as always.

After reading Chapter V of The Hobbit for #LOTRchapteraday I finished the last chapters of this novel. The 24th in the DCI Banks series, which I've been reading for a very long time,it was another hit. While it won't win any awards for literature,it's still a cracking good read, starting off with a mass shooting at a wedding in a small Dales church in Yorkshire. The shooter is found dead by suicide, but Banks isn't convinced. 4.5⭐️ #24in48 #readathon
