The essays and reviews are excellent, adding to my already unrealistic TBR list. I had to skip and skim some parts, though, because of spoilers about books I have not read, that she has intrigued me to read. She became wordy and shared too much. As an aside, I am surprised she married so soon after her first husband, after a longterm marriage, died. She continues to refer to him in her essays even. Interesting.

For even as a young child I was a lover of books and of the spaces in which, as indeed in a sacred temple, books might safely reside.-Joyce Carol Oates

So I turn intellectual, for a bit, after a deep emotional read. I love Joyce Carol Oates though...an interesting person.
