5 posts | 16 read | 5 to read
Chappie is a punked-out teenager rejected by his mother and abusive stepfather. Out of school and in trouble with the police, he drifts through crash pads, doper squats, and malls until he finally settles in an abandoned school bus with Rose, a seven-year-old child, and I-Man, an exiled Rastafarian who will dramatically change his life. Together they begin an amazing journey... From the Trade Paperback edition.

He came through my hometown a few years ago. He was generous, kind, and I will always have a special love for him, and his humility and treatment of children who always seemed to draw the short stick in life. RIP.

1. I always think of the scene when he‘s in Jamaica...
2. Vino. Usually a Cabernet.. or a nice cuvée
3. Gosh- there‘s so many! Anything classic rock through today‘s top 40. But my go-to has to be The Killers.
4. Cart. Or basket.

SpeculativeFemale Oh, I haven't had Cabernet in quite a while. I've been buying more local wine the last few years, and it seems like more of our local wines tend toward the sweeter end of things. 6y
Drnkpnkprincess @SpeculativeFemale local wines can be fantastic. I tend to buy a lot from the Paso Robles, Ca area - but that‘s usually only because I buy a case or two when I‘m wandering the wineries every summer. I try not to buy wine at the grocery stores 😂 and i haven‘t had any AZ local wine in a long time- tons of local beer though 6y

Around the turn of the century, I spent some time in West Africa. Ghanaian kids were all reading Rule of the Bone, smoking crap local weed, hating Monica Lewinsky, and asking if I had a sister they could marry in order to come to USA and meet Michael Jordan. No shit. Perfect book, perfect time

The book that really turned me into an avid reader. I think many in my generation will be able to identify with Bone. Part Holden Caufield, part Odysseus, part every teen, bone leaves home and learns a lot about himself and the world he inhabits in this fantastic novel.
