As la Vista Turns
As la Vista Turns | Kris Ripper

Zane Jaffe has almost lost track of what conception cycle she's in. (That's a lie: this is cycle thirteen.) She's fake-dating her pal Mildred to get her best friend off her back, but judging by how hot it was when they accidentally kissed, her feelings might be somewhat less platonic than she'd thought. And she's decided that healing the fractured local queer community can only be accomplished through a party. Or maybe it's actually a wake. Whatever it is, it'll take place at Club Fred's, and there will be alcohol. Trying to conceive is an unholy rollercoaster of emotions, and Mildred won't let them kiss again until Zane figures out how she feels. Between the wake (exhausting as hell, and that's just the fun stuff), the constant up-down cycle of trying to get pregnant, and saving the world in the meantime, Zane has no idea. Fall in love with Mildred isn't on her list, but maybe it's time to let go of that rigid future she's been working toward, and instead embrace the accidents that can lead to something better.

A story that made me both laugh and cry as the series wrapped up with a perfect bookend since the first was a grumpy/sunshine from the grumpy POV and this is a grumpy/control freak sunshine from the sunshine POV. For #RippedBodiceBingo counts for on page atheist, wine and spirits, and/or FF contemporary.

Ripper packs the final volume of Queers of La Vista with tons of my favourite things. Found families! To-do lists! Crafting! Community! Call-backs to every other relationship in the series! Purple hair! I hunkered down and read the last 150 pages in one sitting, with plenty of help from a warm day and my favourite girl, and you'd better believe I teared up at multiple points. #queerbooks #romantsy #dogsoflitsy

I've got an all-new stack of outdoor reading material this weekend, plus a reading buddy who refuses to pose nicely.

queerbookreader Real talk what's your opinion of Kate Bishop's Hawkeye series? Because I couldn't stand her character in the Fraction series and I've been super skeptical of checking out her own series 7y
xicanti @lemonlime799 I love her solo book so far, but she's one of my absolute favourite literary characters due in large part to the Fraction/Aja series. I think Thompson & Romero keep her characterization consistent with what's come before, so I'd guess the new stuff won't really work for you. 7y
queerbookreader @xicanti Gotcha, thank you! I feel like I'm the only one who isn't a fan of her ? I overall haven't been super happy at Marvel for their "diversification" of their characters. They deserve their own superhero personas, not just a half ass attempt by marvel at making their comics diverse 7y

queerbookreader Because it's like half the new character's stories are about them falling behind the shadow of their predecessors, you feel? 7y
xicanti @lemonlime799 I feel you. I read somewhere that only a teeny, tiny percentage of these legacy-named characters ever last, likely for that reason. Kamala Khan and Kate Bishop are unusual in how long they've held on, and until Fraction Kate was pretty on again/off again so far as page time goes. 7y
queerbookreader I am LIVING for the Jane Foster Thor run......but she is set up to die and give the title back to Thor. We all know she's only going to be temporary. 7y
queerbookreader I have high hopes that Carol and Kamala will keep their titles and roles and stay permanent characters. I so desperately hope they won't get kicked out. 7y

I've been reading so slowly that I have no idea what I'll actually get to in June, but I do hope to pack the month with queer stuff. #junemostanticipated #junebookbugs #pridemonth #queerbooks
