The Girl with the White Flag
The Girl with the White Flag: A Spellbinding Account of Love and Courage in Wartime Okinawa | Tomiko Higa
4 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
"Separated from her family in the confusion and horror of World War II, seven-year-old Tomiko Higa struggles to survive on the battlefield of Okinawa, Japan. There, as some of the fiercest fighting of the war rages around her, she must live alone, with nothing to fall back on but her own wits and daring. Fleeing from encroaching enemy forces, searching desperately for her lost sisters, taking scraps of food from the knapsacks of dead soldiers, risking death at every turn, Tomiko somehow finds the strength and courage to survive."--Amazon.com.

I was trying to come with a flag book for today‘s prompt & thought of this one. I read it probably ten years ago or so, it was recommended by a friend. It‘s good but not an easy read. 😱💰

Next book for the #asianreadathon. The challenge is to read a book recommended by an Asian person. My friend from Okinawa recommend this book that her mother gave her when she was young. The author, Tomiko, got separated from her family during WWII when she was seven. This is how she survived on her own while Okinawa was invaded by the U.S.

I hadn‘t heard of this book until I was googling for today‘s #LilithJuly prompt, but it looks interesting.
