Emma, Vol. 1
Emma, Vol. 1 | Kaoru Mori
4 posts | 9 read | 2 to read
Calling upon his former governess, William Jones, gentleman, is startled when his knock is answered by an uncommonly beautiful servant, the soft-spoken Emma. Throughout his visit, William's eyes drift to the maid whenever she enters the room, and he contrives to meet Emma socially as she goes about her errands. But London society is a web of strict codes and divisions. For the son of a wealthy merchant, seeking out a working-class girl is simply not done! William's father plans for his son to marry into the peerage and elevate the Jones family to greater heights, but although William says and does what is expected of him, he longs only for Emma's company...

Pickpick

I was charmed by this story of a young housemaid in 19th century London. She meets a young man of means who falls for her, and the people around them witness with sympathy, bafflement, or indifference. Mori's art is wonderful, humorous and evocative.

LauraBrook You have the whole Emma manga series?!? 😍😍😍😍😍😍 7y
batsy @LauraBrook Only the first six! I borrowed the remaining ones from a friend... But I should really complete the collection. ☺️ 7y
RealLifeReading Ooh I loved her A Bride's Story but haven't read her other works yet! 7y

batsy @RealLifeReading I haven't read that! Emma is a sweet romance and the details in the drawings are fantastic. 7y
LauraBrook @batsy So envious of them! I'm going to have to buy the collected version, individuals are too expensive to find a decent copy of for me. I love her work! A Bride's Story is amazing, the illustration is so detailed! And I liked her collection of random work (tagged), though I'm saving Shirley for the right time. Which may be today! 😉 7y
Cinfhen Love your bears 🐻 7y
batsy @LauraBrook Thank you for the recommendation! That and A Bride's Story look so fun. Added to the TBR. I know what you mean, graphic novels and comics are generally so expensive here but our local Kinokuniya had a good deal on the Emma manga many years ago, so I had to get them. 7y
batsy @Cinfhen Thanks ☺️ 7y
