Sadri Returns to Bali: A Tale of the Balinese Galungan Festival
Sadri Returns to Bali: A Tale of the Balinese Galungan Festival | Elisabeth Waldmeier
1 post | 1 read | 3 to read
Sadri Returns to Bali is set during the exhilarating Galungan festival of the fun-loving Balinese people. It is told through the eyes of a former child dancer, Sadri, who returns to his previous home on his annual visit to join the celebrations. The festival marks the victory of dharma (order) over adharma (disorder). It is celebrated by Balinese Hindus who believe that during these ten days of prayers, offerings, and joyful fasting, their revered ancestors return to their former homes to be entertained and welcomed. A delightfully written story, coupled with enchanting illustrations -- painted in a combination of aquarelle and color-pencils by Swiss artist Elizabeth Waldmeier -- this book will captivate both children and adults. The story was originally written in German, and has been translated by Susan Tuttle-Laube.

This lovely children's picture book is about a young boy celebrating the Balinese Hindu festival of Galungan. I bought it on a trip to Bali (and, as always, found a souvenir bookmark, too!) #DiversePictureBooks #MarchIntoReading

Chachic This looks beautiful! I haven't been to Bali yet even though it's a just a few hours by flight from here. 7y
