The Dharma Punks
The Dharma Punks | Ant Sang
4 posts | 1 read | 5 to read
Set over one long night in Auckland New Zealand in 1994, a group of anarchist punks have hatched a plan to sabotage the opening of a multi-national fast-food restaurant by blowing it sky-high come opening day. Chopstick has been given the unenviable task of setting the bomb before the opening, but the night takes the first of many unexpected turns when he is separated from his accomplice. Chance encounters and events from his past conspire against him, forcing Chopstick to deal with more than just the mission at hand. Still reeling after the death of a close friend, and struggling to reconcile his spiritual path with his political actions, Chopstick's journey is a meditation on life, love, friendship and the ghost of Kurt Cobain.

Pickpick

Chopstick, a Chinese New Zealander, is looking for existential answers. He‘s turned to Buddhism & pacifism while he recovers from a painful loss but agrees to help his friends carry out a potentially violent act of political protest. Expressive, atmospheric heavy ink art #graphicnovel set in 1990s Auckland. Its ragtag band of punk rock anarchists grabbed me by the heart right from the opening pages. Do our lives matter? Or not? #NZ #OwnVoices

Leftover cake (and ice cream too, why not?) for Sunday breakfast. According to my neighbour, this crumb cake is the best she‘s ever tasted. (My friends and neighbours have baking experiments foisted upon them often.) It‘s from Elaine Khosrova‘s Butter. Khosrova: “I don‘t tend toward hyperbole, so when I call this crumb cake the best ever, you can be darn sure it‘s outstanding.” Of course I had to make it!

Lindy This is where to find the recipe: 5y

Cathythoughts I often have cake for breakfast! As you say .... why not 🤷🏻‍♀️♥️ 5y

ReadingEnvy I would call this coffee cake, which of course is a breakfast food! It looks lovely. 5y
GloVerdino Crumb cake is my favorite! I‘m having major cravings right now! 5y
Lindy @ReadingEnvy @GloVerdino @saresmoore @Cathythoughts There‘s controversy regarding the ratio of crumbs to cake. Khosrova advises, for those who like more crumbs, to double the crumb part of the recipe and to bake it in a 9x13 instead of 9x9 pan. Doubling the crumbs would mean using 6 sticks of butter for the entire cake (instead of 3 1/2 sticks). 😜 5y
ReadingEnvy I have a recipe for one that is visually half crumb. 5y
Lindy @ReadingEnvy Please tell me how much butter, when you have a chance to check. Just curious. 5y
ReadingEnvy Only slightly related - I've been wanting to try this one https://pin.it/ekprkwcsyqco5s 5y
Lindy @ReadingEnvy I know that food terminology varies across the English speaking world. I agree that it‘s a coffee cake. A specific kind of coffee cake. Not all coffee cakes are crumb cakes. And I call coffee cakes that have crumbs in the middle something different: streusel cake. 5y
Lindy @ReadingEnvy A pound of butter is a good indication that the cake will be yummy! 5y
ReadingEnvy @Lindy agree on your terminology.... but when I was looking for the crumb cake I remembered I was reminded of the second one. I also have a blueberry crumb cake from Baking with Dorie that is perfect on a hot summer day with cold brew coffee but technically I‘d also call that one a coffee cake because the crumb is not a solid layer, and no cinnamon. 5y
Lindy @ReadingEnvy Ha! Yes, exactly. I had a blueberry coffee cake in mind when I was thinking about terminology. 5y
