What if, in a world where mathematics could be magic, the thing you desired most was also trying to kill you? Dom is a numerate, someone able to see and control numbers and use them as a form of magic. While seeking a mathematical item of immense power that has only been whispered about, it all goes south for Dom, and he finds himself on the run across three countries on two continents, with two unlikely companions in tow and a numerate of unfathomable strength hot on his tail. Along the way are giant creatures of stone and earth, statues come alive, numerical wonders cast over hundreds of years, and the very real possibility that he won't make it out of this alive. And both of his companions have secrets so deep that even they aren't aware of them, and one of those secrets could make for a seismic shift in how Dom and all other numerates see and interact with the world.

Mehso-so

A book about Dom, a “numerate” who can control numbers, who ends up attracting the attention of someone even more powerful, who chases him across North America and into Scotland. I think the premise is sound, but the execution lacked a bit. The book feels really rushed, and I never really understood exactly what Dom was capable of. Bonus: loved seeing Drumheller, AB in a novel.

Final #TBRBingo update for 2018. I didn‘t succeed this year, but I‘ll be starting with a new card in 2019 and hopefully I‘ll have better luck!

#hour42challenge #24in48 @24in48

Couldn‘t get access to my main shelves for pics (it‘s a long story—first book is The Secret of the Old Clock, last is a stack of Asimov‘s sf magazines), so you‘ll have to settle for pics from my tbr shelf. The pocket James Joyce is last because it‘s a book I barely want to read. Napier‘s Bones is first cuz it‘s shortest.

#IWantToHoldYourHand

This was a total impulse buy from back in the age of Borders which is still TBR. Apparently it‘s about math wizards. Like wizards who use math to do magic. Or something.

One day. #HeyJune

readordierachel Well played. That's a really neat cover. 6y
Beckys_Books I like to think of myself as a math wizard 6y

Suzze @Cinfhen Nope. Barnes & Noble. 16 years. But I used to shop at Borders before B&N came to town. In fact, I‘ll bet I have a few books from Borders on my TBR shelf too. 6y

This is probably old but I just saw it @IheartYA

1️⃣ As many as possible! I always start with a goal of 36 and build up from there.
2️⃣ Napier‘s Bones; Mythago Wood; Little, Big
3️⃣ sf is my favourite and I feel like I‘ve at least sampled all the genres I‘m interested in.
4️⃣ 0? They seem so fun but I have no idea how people afford them.
5️⃣ Don‘t care.

IheartYA Only a few days old. 😊 6y

Yeah, I still haven't read all the 75% off books I bought when Borders closed down in 2010. Filled big ol' shopping baskets full of the Science Fiction/Fantasy sections of two different stores and many are still To Be Read. #bookishconfession #riotgrams

Texreader Me too!! 7y
