I know there's a lot of stories out there that deal with magical alternate versions of London, but the London of this novella is very definitely charming - and dangerous. Charlotte's a sweetheart, if a little more sheltered than I strictly like in my heroines, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to her in the next novella. My only nitpick with this is that the plot is too lean for my liking.

Good short book to read if you want a central female character, so magic, and an 1800s setting.

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this but it grew on me and by the time it ended, I was completely persuaded. I need the sequel!

I was frustrated with this. I liked the world building, but wish it'd been done as a full novel. It's the first in a series and everything felt tidy/wrapped up at end, but I almost it was too quickly for my taste.

Reasons to read Brother's Ruin:

✬ Rogue mages would be a good reason.
✬ All technology in this world is run by magic!
✬ Rogue mages.
✬ A really cool, inquisitive, strong-willed but nice female main character.
✬ And she has ass-kicking magic skills.
✬ ...did I happen to mention rogue mages at any point...?

Received to review. The potential love interest/male protagonist annoyed me, and it all felt too much like a first part. Still enjoyable.
