Lyon's Pride
Lyon's Pride | Anne McCaffrey

The survival technique of the Hivers was terrifying -- and brilliant. Their huge Sphere ships, controlled by the Many Mind of ten to sixteen queens, surged out into space. When an appropriate planet was found, the Hivers destroyed any and every variety of indigenous life, the queens propagated, and when the new world was full, more ships were sent out. the colonization was repeated until no planet, no species, least of all Man and Mrdini, was safe. The furry and courageous Mrdini had fought the Hivers for centuries, many dying bravely in an attempt to save their own worlds. Now Mrdini and Man combined to form the Alliance -- and Humankind had their own weapons to offer -- the power and might of the Talents who could not only communicate silently with each other, but could project cargoes, ships and themselves across the deeps of space. The four children of Damia -- Laria, Thian, Rojer and Zara -- were Primes amongst the Talents, and all their skills were desperately needed, for the Hivers' terrible Sphere ships were still thrusting through space, unfathomable, impenetrable, and carrying death in their labyrinthine depths.

Bk4 In The Tower And The Hive series sees Damia & Afra‘s children growing into their calling as Prime Talents. Laria the eldest has become Prime of Clarf Tower on the Mrdini home world, while her brothers Thian & Rojer & sister Zara join the naval fleet still tracking Hiver ships across the galaxy. But with growing opposition on both sides of the Alliance, trouble is brewing for the FT&T. #HSreadathon

We continue to follow Damia‘s brood as they continue to work w/their Mridini allies to hunt down the Hivers. There‘s family, friendship, love, & tragedy. There‘s also many issues that‘re timely today. Sadly, I kept thinking we may be on track to be more like the Hivers than the Alliance with a will to multiply & abuse the world around us w/little thought to sustainability & responsibility. I do 💜 this story & wish I was telekinetic/pathic.

Mehso-so

Still working my way through this series. I feel like the first one started out fun, and by book 4, it‘s a little cliche and tired. I like McCaffery, but meh.

Book 4 of The Tower And The Hive series is finished. Having already done a marathon of The Rowan, Damia & Damia's Children, Lyons Pride continues the struggle of the Nine Star Alliance against the hivers with the help of their allies, the Mrdini. All of Anne McCaffrey's books have such strong female characters, which is all the more amazing considering she started writing when sci-fi was a complete boys club. One of my favourites. 5⭐️

wordsofbek These and the Dragonsinger books got me through my teenage years for that very reason. These characters showed me that I could overcome when I had no light to guide me in "real" life. 3y
