A lot in this book resonated with me. After overcoming a fear of deep water and only learning to swim 2 years ago, it was my challenge in 2018 to swim in the sea. Well, I read this on the way down to the coast on my 2nd ever trip to go sea swimming! Really well written and funny, and made my journey to outdoor swimming feel less alone!

RaimeyGallant Congratulations on learning to swim. The book sounds interesting. And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you need it. Or if you prefer how-to videos, @chelleo put some together at the link in her bio. @LitsyWelcomeWagon 6y
Kat_H @RaimeyGallant thank you so much! Happy reading! X 6y

Book 7: Having myself embraced the restorative power of open water swimming last year while training for my first (equally restorative) triathlon, this book immediately appealed. Heminsley's narration is somewhat emotional yet always sincere - capturing that icy panic that can consume you, even before you get in the water. Another easy read about woman meets nature and the importance of breathing. Dive in.

Part personal journey, part memoir, part guide, I picked this book to inject some renewed energy into my swim routine and it‘s doing the trick. I usually swim 3/4times a week, until I don‘t! This break has been longer than it should have been! Although I‘m exclusively a pool swimmer, it was great to read about the feeling of the oceans, rivers and tarns -and reflect on what being in water does to the psyche. #gettingbackontrack

LoveToReadLiveToRead I read Running Like A Girl a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I‘d just been getting back into running after a break and it definitely gave me a kick up the bum! 🏃‍♀️ 6y
Mitch I feel suitable ‘kicked‘ too! @LoveToReadLiveToRead 🤣 6y
JamieArc Swimming Studies by Leanne Shapton was a book that did that for me. When you‘re ready for another book about swimming, I recommend it. Putting yours on my TBR. Thanks! 6y
Mitch Cool. Looks good. Thanks @JamieArc 6y

Patio is half way done - staying close enough to be supportive and supply cold drinks to the team and far enough away to start this month #nonfiction title all about swimming! I ❤️swimming, but have recently found excuses, when the early alarm has gone off, not to go. So hoping this helps inspire me to get back into routine! 🤞🏼

I began to wonder about the freedom...

Peterfox123 Finding this book coincided with my own growing obsession with swimming. There's so much more to it than a swimming blog though, isn't there? Great quote. 7y
charl08 @Peterfox123 only just finished it - liked the accounts of the swims the best I think. So many great books about swimming now! 7y
Peterfox123 @charl08 Yes. It's definitely getting plenty of coverage at the moment. 7y

So excited for this! Doesn't come out until July in the US though 😫I listened to her previous book, Running Like a Girl, while training for a half marathon and it felt like she totally got me! And gave me the confidence to call myself a runner. I just read an excerpt of this new one at work yesterday (Mistake. Weeping at my desk.) https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/jan/06/open-water-swimming-last-ch...

Cinfhen Both books look good, thanks for sharing 7y
raelaschoenherr @Cinfhen I recommend them!! Nice to read a running memoir from a normal girl and not a crazy ultra-athlete! 7y
Peterfox123 I heard Alexandra Helminsley read an extract from Leap In on radio. Being recently hooked on swimming I bought the book. Wasn't expecting the emotional jolts though. Highly recommended. 7y
raelaschoenherr @Peterfox123 Great to hear! 7y
