Winter has been raised to be a guardian of the wood, a job which has been handed down through the generations of her father's family. The wood is a nexus of time portals & travellers from the various time periods can sometimes stumble through the portals & it is the guardian's job to guide them back to their own time. If a traveller were to wander into the wrong time, it could have devastating consequences, (Continued)

OutsmartYourShelf or if a traveller or guardian is still in the wood when night falls, then their life is at stake as vicious creatures that live in the shadows come out at night. When her dad vanishes one day out on solo patrol, it is down to Winter to protect those who accidentally slip through its portals.

Apparently I had this on my bookshelf for almost 5 years without picking it up! Why didn't I read it before? It's an excellent YA fantasy.

OutsmartYourShelf Winter is a great MC, you really feel for her losing her father & trying to not keep upsetting her mother who is also still grieving his loss, but Winter needs answers. There's a growing friendship in the story but it doesn't fall into the mistake of using the trope that many YA books do: instalove. There's a spark but it's not rushed. The overall plot is also nicely done, even if the 'big bad' is a little predictable. 14mo
OutsmartYourShelf I really enjoyed reading it, it was something different to the usual books I read. If you like YA fantasy then give this a try - I'm even keeping the book in case I decide to reread it one day. 5🌟

Book 3 of #24b4Monday finished. YA darkish fantasy involving time travel and a magic and dangerous wood. Wonderful read. Fast-paced and fun. A good balance of darkness, mystery, and even some levity with the character of Henry trying to adapt to the modern world. GREAT villain, since it gave some insight into his POV and you could understand why he was doing what he did.

Andrew65 You are doing brilliantly! 👏👏👏 4y

⭐⭐⭐⭐! This would have been 5, but the ending tore out my heart, so yeah. I really enjoyed the characters, especially Henry (hello, new book boyfriend). And the wood itself is just a fascinating concept. I just really need a sequel so there can be a happy ending!

This is what our reviewer had to say about #TheWood by @chelseabobulski "THE WOOD is a story with an interesting premise that balances both action and plot with the exploration of ideas like responsibility, family and maturity....Chelsea Bobulski blended elements of fantasy...with science fiction concepts...really well."

REVIEW · ★★★★☆

This book is beautiful, dark, whimsical, and so easy to lose yourself in. I loved the characters, and the plot, but most of all, the setting of The Wood is so stunning! It's magical and mysterious during the day, yet foreboding and eerie at night.

Winter didn't ask to be the guardian of the wood, but when her dad inexplicablyh vanishes, she's the one who must protect travelers who accidentally slip through the wood's portals.

Once brightly colored leaves are now bubbling inky black and creatures that live in the shadows torture lost travelers. Winter must now put her trust in Henry--a young man from 18th century England--in order to find the truth and those they've lost.
