Ahead of Time
Ahead of Time: My Early Years as a Foreign Correspondent | Ruth Gruber
4 posts | 2 read | 6 to read
The early life and trailblazing career of one of the twentieth centurys most remarkable female journalists In this fascinating memoir, Ruth Gruber recalls her first twenty-five years, from her youth in Brooklyn to her astonishing academic accomplishments and groundbreaking journalistic career. She shares her experiences entering New York University at fifteen and just five years later becoming the worlds youngest person to earn a PhD. She recounts her time in Cologne, Germany, studying during Hitlers rise to power, and her adventures in Europe and the Arctic as a reporter for the New York Herald Tribune. Spirited and compelling, Ahead of Time is a striking account of the early years of a woman at the center of the twentieth centurys turning points.

Some of my favorite nonfiction books read in 2017! Definitely planning on participating in #nonfiction2018 challenge hosted by @Riveted_Reader_Melissa

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ve read It‘s What I Do and The New Jim Crow both were excellent, I still recommend them regularly! 6y
mhillis @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I read It‘s what I do because of your recommendation! Ahead of Time and Notes on a foreign Country are also by journalists. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @mhillis I‘ll have to check both of those out then. I‘ve found my journalist reads very interesting. 6y

I used Bookout to track my reading of this book. It is interesting to see these stats but I'm not sure if I'll continue using it. My reading speed isn't actually this fast-the last 20% is an excerpt from another book that I skipped over!

Shortstack I've been using it, too. I like it more for keeping me from being distracted while reading that anything else. 7y
saresmoore @Shortstack I like the idea of reading accountability. @mhillis But, I think this might pander to my perfectionistic/achieving nature. 7y
Reviewsbylola I may test this out during the readathon. 7y
