This is a beautifully illustrated story of the author finding a passion for animals as a young boy through being able to talk to animals (his pets) when his stutter made it nearly impossible to speak to people. As an adult, he took that passion and turned it into a career working to save big cats, including jaguars in Belize. It‘s inspiring and yes, I cried. #readingtheamericas2023 #belize

DGRachel @BarbaraBB Watch it be the only book I manage to finish for the challenge. 😂😂😂 1y
BarbaraBB @DGRachel 🤣 I think you‘ll manage at least one more, what to think of USA 😉? 1y
DGRachel @BarbaraBB Wouldn‘t it be awful if I didn‘t manage a book for the US, since half of my nearly 200 books for this year are US based? 😱 1y
Librarybelle It sounds so inspiring! 1y

This inspiring story is about a boy named Alan with a severe stutter. His teachers think he needs to be put in a class for disturbed kids, but his family know that is not true. This made Alan feel broken and not worthy. He felt comfortable singing and speaking to animals, especially the jaguar at the zoo. He relates to animals because they are unable to get their words out either, he promises that he will be their voice to keep them from danger.

clairebourq_2023 He went to college and received help for him to speak fluently, formalized his study of animals, and eventually developed a specialization in wild cats and jaguars. He then travels the world and persuades the officials in Belize to set up a jaguar preserve. The book ends off with him face to face with a safe jaguar that he saved.

This book is about a boy who speaks with a stutter. He is upset by the large cats in the cages at his local zoo and wonders how they feel being trapped inside of a cage. He loses his stutter when he sings, and when he speaks to the animals. He wants to use his voice to speak out for the animals that cannot speak for themselves. He later travels to Belize to study jaguars, and finds himself looking at one. He whispers thank you with no stutter.

This B of Alan Rabinowitz life beautifully illustrated by Catia Chien highlights the struggles Alan had as a child communicating with a stutter. Animals were the only thing he could talk to normally and made a promise to have a voice for them some day. This story would be great for AS, especially if there are quieter students in the classroom. UDL 9.2 facilitate personal coping skills and strategies. EL #28 provide biographies of men and women

farynantenucci #ucflae3414f17 http://hmhbooks.com/boyandajaguar/ I found this website with more information on the author and illustrator that could be very helpful and informative for the AS. 6y
MorganH This sounds like a beautiful book with a great message for children! 6y
DrSpalding This is a new book for me! I just added it to my stock. Looking at the cover, I made text to text connections with the jungle book. 6y

A beautiful story about Alan Robinowitz who had a speech impediment so sever he was considered dumb & unable to learn. He grew up to create the first Jaguar preserve because these big cats helped to save him.

Both of my kids loved this biographical story of conservationist Alan Rabinowitz.

My daughter, who has done speech therapy, was inspired by what Rabinowitz has accomplished in spite of his disability. My son was inspired by his amazing work to protect jaguars.

I may have gotten a little teary at the end.

MarriedtoMrT Just ordered it from the library. Looking forward to reading it with my littles. 7y
BookInMyHands @MarriedtoMrT I hope they like it! My kids are 5 & 8, but the story isn't too long or complicated. 7y
