The New Life
The New Life | Orhan Pamuk
8 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
Osman is a young university student whose life is changed by a chance encounter with a mysterious book. Osman becomes obsessed with the book, which seems to contain all the magic and power of life and love. Romantic and elusive, Orhan Pamuk's The New Life is a rhapsody to love and an investigation into the shadowy nature of self.

Pickpick

This is one of those books that will compel you to read it till the very end. It is the journey that one must take to understand the finesse that Pamuk has created, clearly one of his best works.👍

Pickpick

The narrator reads a book & goes off to find the meaning of life & win his beloved Janan. Slow to start, I was soon immersed in Pamuk's rich, lyrical prose. His sentences are intricate, but so exact they stop you in your tracks. I love the layers of meaning & imperfect characters. He handles big themes - obsessive love, fanaticism, east v west - with recurring motifs (time, angels, buses) & cherishes everyday objects (a recurring theme of his).

Hooked_on_books Pamuk is so unique. I find myself thinking his books are so odd while I'm reading them, but then they stick to me for a long time. I'd read anything from him! 7y
Abailliekaras @Hooked_on_books this was definitely one of those! I'm looking forward to his new one coming out next month. 😊 7y

'Who do you kill when it's the whole population assuming a different guise?' So says 'Mr Owl' at a science convention... which appears to be full of religious fanatics. But I'm not sure exactly what's going on. 🙄 mysterious so far, but I love Pamuk's intricate sentences.

LeeRHarry My vote is for Homegoing! 7y
I-read-and-eat I love ' A Strangeness in my Mind' but it is quite a hefty tome. Totally worth your time though. 7y

bedandabook The Lowland is astonishing. It's stayed with me and is not a difficult read. Whatever you choose, enjoy! 7y

I cannot wait to explore Pamuk more. "My Name is Red" was a unique reading experience for me. Part murder mystery, part art treatise, part investigation into spirituality. Lyrical & philosophical. This is my stack of Pamuk TBR.
