This was another nice surprise - Clare truly is a master writer and his poetic past shows in the quality of writing. With a lovable main character and a surprising deviation of the plot from my initial suspicions it was truly a great read.
I will be waiting expectantly to read the next instalment..

Final day of #sizzlinsummerbooks calls for #JulyFaves. I unfortunately didn't read as much as I'd have liked this month, but in any event, I think The Honours takes the prize. Dense, dark, and with a plucky young girl with a fierce imagination as the protagonist, I thoroughly enjoyed Mr B's Book Emporium's first selection for me. 👍🏽👍🏽

Thank goodness for an intriguing prologue - it kept me going through the first half of the book (which could have been 50% shorter). But then it all kicked off and was an absolute blast. This is one of those books where the blurb doesn't really tell you what you're getting into.

This was not at all what I was expecting. I went in thinking mystery/historical fiction and I got full on fantasy. This was brilliant with a badass female protagonist. I loved every minute of it!
